Unlabelled: Liver transplantation is the major treatment for end-stage liver disease. Postoperative care is a great challenge to reduce morbidity and mortality in patients. In this sense, management in the liver ICU allows hemodynamic management, coagulation monitoring, renal support, electrolyte disturbances, respiratory support and early weaning from mechanical ventilation and evaluation of the liver graft.

The pandemic of COVID-19 (an infectious disease caused by the SARS-CoV2 virus), declared as such by the WHO, is spreading since its appearance in Wuhan (China) in December 2019, rapidly and unexpectedly throughout the world, causing millions of cases and thousands of deaths and has affected more than 120 countries. It was officially acknowledged in Peru on March 6th, 2020, and has spread rapidly throughout the country, causing first the crisis and then the collapse of the healthcare system, especially emergency care, admissions, and overcrowded intensive care units, not having a specific treatment or the foreseeable possibility of a short-term vaccine. COVID-19 is currently known for being a systemic disease that can affect multiple organs and tissues and can be fatal.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a neoplasm with significant incidence and prevalence in the world. In large percentage it originates from a cirrhotic liver. Liver transplantation under special conditions is effective in the simultaneous treatment of both conditions.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFIntroduction: The recurrence of autoimmune hepatitis (HAI) following liver transplantation occurs between 8-68%. In our experience, autoimmune liver diseases are a major indication of liver transplantation.
Objective: To determine the recurrence of autoimmune hepatitis in 15 years of experience and to evaluate the risk factors associated with the recurrence of HAI.
We report two cases of biliary fascioliasis in patients from the highlands of Peru; with several months of symptoms characterized for biliary-type pain, dark urine and jaundice in one case. Both of them referred to the department of Gastroenterology of the Hospital Nacional Guillermo Almenara Irigoyen for suspicious of choledocolithiasis. Laboratory tests were performed which showed variable high levels of functional liver tests (cholestasis) and marked eosinophilia in one case.
