Objective: To systematically review and meta-analyse published data about the diagnostic performance of Fluorine-18-Fluorodeoxyglucose ((18)F-FDG) positron emission tomography (PET) and PET/computed tomography (PET/CT) in osteomyelitis related to diabetic foot.

Methods: A comprehensive literature search of studies on (18)F-FDG-PET and PET/CT in patients with diabetic foot was performed. Pooled sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative likelihood ratio (LR+ and LR-) and diagnostic odds ratio (DOR) and area under the summary ROC curve of (18)F-FDG-PET and PET/CT in patients with osteomyelitis related to diabetic foot were calculated.

We report a case of a 61-year-old male patient affected by Wegener granulomatosis and left exophthalmos who underwent F-FDG PET/CT during follow-up for rectal cancer. The study was negative for secondary lesions but revealed high uptake at the left orbital mass consistent with Wegener granulomatosis.

Aim: To perform a meta-analysis of published data on the prevalence and risk of malignancy of focal thyroid incidental uptake (FTIs) detected by Fluorine-18-Fluorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG) positron emission tomography (PET) or PET/CT.

Methods: A comprehensive literature search of studies published up to and including December 2012 was performed. Pooled prevalence and malignancy risk of FTIs were calculated, including a sub-analysis for the geographic areas of origin of the studies.

We report a case of a 75-year-old male patient treated with radiotherapy in 1999 for prostate cancer. Due to a rise in prostate-specific antigen, he underwent (11)C-choline PET/CT. The study was negative for secondary lesions but revealed an incidental pathologic focal brain uptake.

Background: Renalcancers account for around 3% of all cancers and the most common type of (90%) is renal cell carcinoma Five-year survival rate in renal cancer patients is 68.4%.

Aim: The aim of our study was to establish the role of F18-FDG-PET/CT in restaging patients with renal carcinoma who underwent partial or radical nephrectomy.

We report a case of thyroid incidentaloma detected by 18F-choline PET/CT. A 66-year-old male patient with a history of prostate cancer underwent a 18F-choline PET/CT for restaging. PET/CT revealed a focal area of increased 18F-choline uptake corresponding to a hypodense nodule in the right lobe of the thyroid.

Intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms (IPMN) are intraductal mucin-producing neoplasms with tall columnar, mucin-containing epithelium, with or without papillary projections, involving the main pancreatic duct and/or major side branches. They account for approximately 25 % of all cystic neoplasms and can be subdivided into benign lesions, borderline lesions, and carcinoma. In this clinical scenario accurate preoperative diagnosis can eliminate unnecessary surgery, which is risky and potentially harmful, yet enable effective selection of patients who are candidates for surgery.

The aim of this paper was to describe the optimized labeling protocol and quality control measures used in the production of [(90)Y]DOTATOC, starting from three different radioactivity levels to treat one, two, or three patients per therapeutic session. We investigated three different starting radioactivity levels. For the low radioactivity preparation we used 5138±280 MBq of [Y] isotope, for the medium radioactivity preparation we used 8893±900 MBq, and for the high radioactivity preparation we used 11250±715 MBq.

Thyroid incidental uptake is defined as a thyroid uptake incidentally and newly detected by imaging techniques performed for an unrelated purpose and especially for non-thyroid diseases. Aim of the study was to establish the prevalence and pathological nature of focal thyroid incidentalomas detected at F18-FDG-PET/CT in patients studied for oncological purposes and not for thyroid disease. Secondary end point was to establish a possible maximum standardised uptake value cut-off over which a malignant lesion should be suspected.

To systematically review the literature data on the role of Fluorine-18-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography and positron emission tomography/computed tomography (FDG-PET and PET/CT) in patients with retroperitoneal fibrosis (RF), PubMed/MEDLINE, Embase and Scopus databases were searched for articles that evaluated the usefulness of FDG-PET and PET/CT in patients with RF from inception to March 31, 2012. Review articles or editorials, articles not in the field of interest of this review, case reports and preclinical studies were excluded. Only studies including FDG-PET or PET/CT scans performed in at least three patients with RF were included.

Background and Purpose. Several studies have evaluated the role of fluorine-18-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography and positron emission tomography/computed tomography (FDG-PET and PET/CT) in diagnosing and assessing disease activity in patients with retroperitoneal fibrosis (RF). The aim of our paper is to perform a literature review on this topic.

Background: Breast cancer (BC) is the most frequent cancer in European women with nearly 30% of the patients eventually developing metastases. Neuroendocrine differentiation is a rare event, but overexpression of somatostatin receptors in BC has been reported in many studies.

Case Report: A patient with liver metastases from BC was treated with peptide receptor radionuclide therapy (PRRT).

Objective: To systematically review and meta-analyze published data about the diagnostic performance of Fluorine-18-Fluorodeoxyglucose ((18)F-FDG) positron emission tomography (PET) and PET/computed tomography (PET/CT) in patients with chronic inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).

Methods: A comprehensive computer literature search of studies published through May 2012 regarding (18)F-FDG-PET and PET/CT in patients with IBD was performed. All retrieved studies were reviewed and qualitatively analyzed.

Renal collecting duct (Bellini) carcinoma is a very rare variant of renal cell carcinoma. It is associated with a poor prognosis and is often metastatic at the time of diagnosis. We report a case of a 44-year-old man affected by Bellini carcinoma, who underwent postoperative staging with 18F-FDG PET/CT.

Although lymphomas are generally considered as tumors of lymph nodes about 25-40% arise at extranodal sites. We report a case of a 60 years old female who developed a right breast B-diffuse large cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma in 2005 treated by chemo/radio-therapy which relapsed at the same breast in 2007 and at the other breast in 2010. The patient underwent both radiologic and nuclear medicine studies.

Context: Thyroid incidentaloma diagnosed by 2-[18F]-fluoro-2-deoxy-d-glucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (F-18-FDG-PET/CT) is defined as a thyroid uptake incidentally and newly detected in a patient studied for nonthyroid purpose. In this review, we have comprehensively analyzed the diagnostic and clinical significance of F-18-FDG-PET/CT thyroid incidentalomas revealed during studies performed for an unrelated and nonthyroid purpose.

Evidence Acquisition: A comprehensive literature research of the PubMed/MEDLINE databases was conducted to find relevant published articles about the F-18-FDG-PET or F-18-FDG-PET/CT thyroid incidentalomas.
