Although studies linking cancer and CVD exist, few examine risk in older adults, the impact of cancer treatment, or the effect of aspirin on reducing risk in this cohort.
Methods: The authors conducted a secondary analysis of the Aspirin in Reducing Events in the Elderly (ASPREE) trial to investigate the impact of cancer and cancer treatment on a composite CVD end point comprising hospitalization for heart failure (HHF), myocardial infarction (MI), and stroke.
Objective: Smaller body surface area (BSA) frequently precludes patients from left ventricular assist device (LVAD) therapy. We sought to investigate the clinical outcomes in patients with small BSA undergoing less invasive LVAD implantation.
Methods: We conducted a retrospective review of 216 patients implanted with HeartMate 3 LVAD (Abbott, Chicago, IL) via less invasive surgery at our institution.
The advent of combined antiretroviral therapy (cART) has been instrumental in controlling HIV-1 replication and transmission and decreasing associated morbidity and mortality. However, cART alone is not able to cure HIV-1 due to the presence of long-lived, latently infected immune cells, which re-seed plasma viremia when cART is interrupted. Assessment of HIV-cure strategies using ex vivo culture methods for further understanding of the diversity of reactivated HIV, viral outgrowth, and replication dynamics are enhanced using ultrasensitive digital ELISA based on single-molecule array (Simoa) technology to increase the sensitivity of endpoint detection.

Tricuspid rupture secondary to blunt force trauma is a rare diagnosis. However, the incidence of this injury is rising due to the improved initial treatment of complex trauma patients as well as enhanced early detection methods through the use of cardiac ultrasound. We report the case of an otherwise healthy 42 year old male who sustained significant blunt force trauma after a single motor vehicle accident.
