As an archipelago, the Philippines has a geographic advantage in reducing ASF transmission risk. However, control efforts remain challenging due to the disease's complex epidemiology, lack of effective treatment, and vaccine availability.

Objectives: Many cats do not see a veterinarian on an annual basis, and their caregivers face many barriers to accessing veterinary care. A potential solution to overcome some of these barriers is video telemedicine. Thus, the aim of this study was to understand companion cat caregivers' perceptions of using veterinary video telemedicine with their cats.

Outpatient care following discharge from a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) is critical for streamlined transfer of care. Yet, information is lacking about the characteristics of early outpatient care. The objective of this secondary data analysis is to describe outpatient encounters (OPEs) within the first three months following the discharge of commercially insured infants admitted to NICUs in the MarketScan Research Database nationally from 2015 to 2017.

Ozone use in the treatment of subclinical mastitis in dairy cows.

This research communication paper addresses the hypothesis that the use of therapeutic alternatives for mastitis, such as intramammary ozone, can cure the disease with lower costs and without harmful residues for human consumption and without formation of microbial resistance like the ones caused by indiscriminate use of antibiotics in dairy farms. The study was performed in 36 mammary quarters from 12 dairy cows with subclinical mastitis grade three. The experimental units were randomly assigned into four groups and each group received a treatment.

Hydroxytyrosol recovery from olive pomace: a simple process using olive mill industrial equipment and membrane technology.

In this work, pilot-scale nanofiltration was used to obtain aqueous solutions rich in hydroxytyrosol and tyrosol from olive oil by-products. A large-scale simple process involving olive mill standard machinery (blender and decanter) was used for the olive pomace pre-treatment with water. The aqueous extract was then directly fed to a nanofiltration unit and concentrated by reverse osmosis.

Retinoschisis: a retrospective study of an uncommon retinal change in cats and dogs.

Retinoschisis is a poorly documented form of retinal degeneration characterized by cyst-like splitting that occurs between the inner nuclear and outer plexiform layers. The pathogenesis of retinoschisis is incompletely understood, but congenital, acquired and secondary aetiologies (glaucoma, inflammation, neoplasia) are described in humans. This retrospective study investigated the prevalence and associated histological and clinical features of retinoschisis in cats and dogs submitted for biopsy over a 10-year period.

Evidence of Electron Heating by Alpha Particles in JET Deuterium-Tritium Plasmas.

The fusion-born alpha particle heating in magnetically confined fusion machines is a high priority subject for studies. The self-heating of thermonuclear fusion plasma by alpha particles was observed in recent deuterium-tritium (D-T) experiments on the joint European torus. This observation was possible by conducting so-called "afterglow" experiments where transient high fusion yield was achieved with neutral beam injection as the only external heating source, and then termination of the heating at peak performance.

Scaling Up Latent Tuberculosis Infection Testing and Treatment for Non-US Born Patients in a Federally Qualified Community Health Center.

In the United States (US), tuberculosis elimination strategies include scaling up latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) diagnosis and treatment for persons at risk of progression to tuberculosis disease. The Massachusetts Department of Public Health partnered with Lynn Community Health Center to provide care to patients with LTBI who were born outside the US. The electronic health record was modified to facilitate collection of data elements for public health assessment of the LTBI care cascade.

Accumulation of peribronchial leukocytes is the hallmark of asthma, in particular, eosinophils, which have been reported as the primary cell associated with the induction of airway hyperresponsiveness. Continued exacerbation and accumulation of other leukocytes, such as neutrophils, Th1, and Th17 cells correlate with many of the long-term effects of asthma, such as airway remodeling.

This study aims to understand the difficulties in caring for the older adults with functional dependence from the perspective of Brazilian and Portuguese caregivers. This is a study based on the Theory of Social Representations, based on the Thematic Content Analysis proposed by Bardin, carried out with 21 informal caregivers of older adults in Brazil and 11 informal caregivers of older adults in Portugal. The instrument consisted of a questionnaire with sociodemographic data and data on health conditions along with an open interview with guiding questions on the theme of care.

Western diet (WD), characterized by excess saturated fat and sugar intake, is a major contributor to obesity and metabolic and arterial dysfunction in humans. However, these phenotypes are not consistently observed in traditional inbred, genetically identical mice. Therefore, we sought to determine the effects of WD on visceral adiposity and metabolic/arterial function in UM-HET3 mice, an outbred, genetically diverse strain of mice.

Camel Grass Phenolic Compounds: Targeting Inflammation and Neurologically Related Conditions.

Background: The use of plants for therapeutic purposes has been supported by growing scientific evidence.

Methods: This work consisted of (i) characterizing the phenolic compounds present in both aqueous and hydroethanol (1:1, /) extracts of camel grass, by hyphenated liquid chromatographic techniques, (ii) evaluating their anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and neuromodulation potential, through cell and cell-free models, and (iii) establishing a relationship between the chemical profiles of the extracts and their biological activities.

Results: Several caffeic acid and flavonoid derivatives were determined in both extracts.
