Background: Trinidad and Tobago and the Bahamas are two Caribbean countries whose national blood transfusion systems are heavily reliant (76.2% and 76%) on family replacement donors.

Purpose: To assess the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and associated mitigation measures on persons with sensory impairments (SI), including visual impairments (VI) and hearing impairments (HI).

Design: Cross-sectional survey.

Methods: Adults with VI (best-corrected visual acuity <20/60 in the better-seeing eye), HI (International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision, codes), and age- and sex-matched controls (n = 375) were recruited from the University of Michigan.

Current therapeutic treatments improving the impaired transportation of oxygen in acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) have been found to be relevant and beneficial for the therapeutic treatment of COVID-19 patients suffering from severe respiratory complications. Hence, we report the preclinical and the preliminary results of the Phase I/II clinical trial of LEAF-4L6715, a liposomal nanocarrier encapsulating the kosmotropic agent trans-crocetin (TC), which, once injected, enhance the oxygenation of vascular tissue and therefore has the potential to improve the clinical outcomes of ARDS and COVID-19 in severely impacted patients. We demonstrated that the liposomal formulation enabled to increase from 30 min to 48 h the reoxygenation properties of free TCs in vitro in endothelial cells, but also to improve the half-life of TC by 6-fold in healthy mice.

Based on the literature, OPRCC is predominantly present in adult males. OPRCC has a specific genetic affiliation with the Fumarate Hydratase gene requiring all patients diagnosed with OPRCC to undergo genetic testing.

Comparison of Cancer Patients to Non-Cancer Patients among COVID-19 Inpatients at a National Level.

Our objective was to compare patients hospitalized for COVID-19 with cancer to those without cancer using national data and to study the effect of cancer on the risk of hospital death and intensive care unit (ICU) admission. (2) Methods: All patients hospitalized in France for COVID-19 in March-April 2020 were included from the French national administrative database, which contains discharge summaries for all hospital admissions in France.
