The use of correlation between tree-ring series as a proximity indicator in dendroprovenance analyses is often questioned. High correlations may occur between series at a great distance, but conversely, low correlations may occur between series that are close to each other. Objective: To deconstruct the epileptogenic networks of patients with drug-resistant epilepsy (DRE) using source functional connectivity (FC) analysis; unveil the FC biomarkers of the epileptogenic zone (EZ); and develop machine learning (ML) models to estimate the EZ using brief interictal electroencephalography (EEG) data.

Ultrasound shear wave elastography can be used to characterize mechanical properties of unstressed tissue by measuring shear wave velocity (SWV), which increases with increasing tissue stiffness. Measurements of SWV have often been assumed to be directly related to the stiffness of muscle. Some have also used measures of SWV to estimate stress, since muscle stiffness and stress covary during active contractions, but few have considered the direct influence of muscle stress on SWV.

Linked to major volcanic eruptions around 536 and 540 CE, the onset of the Late Antique Little Ice Age has been described as the coldest period of the past two millennia. The exact timing and spatial extent of this exceptional cold phase are, however, still under debate because of the limited resolution and geographical distribution of the available proxy archives. Three tree ring sequences were collected on the soundboard of the Stradivari harp. Clinical assessments for many musculoskeletal disorders involve evaluation of muscle stiffness, although it is not yet possible to obtain quantitative estimates from individual muscles. Ultrasound elastography can be used to estimate the material properties of unstressed, homogeneous, and isotropic materials by tracking the speed of shear wave propagation; these waves propagate faster in stiffer materials. Although elastography has been applied to skeletal muscle, there is little evidence that shear wave velocity (SWV) can directly estimate muscle stiffness since this tissue violates many of the assumptions required for there to be a direct relationship between SWV and stiffness.
