Background: Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) treatment has significantly evolved with the introduction of tyrosine kinase inhibitors. However, access to these treatments and outcomes vary globally. This study examines 2 decades of CML management in Colombia using the RENEHOC registry, focusing on TKI efficacy, safety, and healthcare system challenges.

This multicenter retrospective study analyzed 269 patients over 60 years of age diagnosed with AML in Colombia, using data from RENEHOC-PETHEMA registry, from 2009 to 2023. The median age at diagnosis was 70 years (Range:60-98), 55% were men, 61% had an ECOG < 2, and 75.

Although other mechanical circulatory support devices have been associated with anti-human leukocyte antigen antibody formation, including de novo donor-specific antibodies (dnDSA), it is unknown whether ECMO is a sensitizing exposure.
Methods: This was a single-center retrospective cohort study of lung transplant recipients.

Background: Continuous retrograde flow across the aortic valve from left ventricular assist device (LVAD) therapy can result in cusp damage and progressive aortic regurgitation, potentially triggering recurrent heart and multiorgan failure. The management of aortic regurgitation after LVAD implantation has not been well defined.
Methods: This study retrospectively reviewed the investigators' experience with the management of de novo aortic regurgitation requiring intervention in patients with continuous-flow LVAD.
Indane-based molecules are effective scaffolds for different pharmaceutical products, so it is relevant to analyze the relation between structure and functionality in indane derivatives. Here, we have characterized the conformational landscape and molecular structure of 1-aminoindane in the gas phase using chirped-excitation Fourier-transform microwave spectroscopy and computational methods. The rotational spectrum confirmed the presence of two conformers, which were identified based on their rotational constants and 14N nuclear quadrupole coupling tensor elements.

Data on prediction models for neurologic outcomes in VV-ECMO are limited.
Methods: We analyzed adult (age ≥18 years) VV-ECMO patients in the Extracorporeal Life Support Organization (ELSO) Registry (2009-2021) from 676 centers.
The recent interstellar detection of individual polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in the dense molecular cloud TMC-1 brings interest in related species that could be present in this astronomical environment. These detections, that include pure PAHs and their cyano-derivative counterparts, were performed through the interplay between laboratory rotational spectroscopy experiments and radioastronomical observations. Here, we present the laboratory rotational spectroscopic study of the five cyano-derivatives of the PAH fluorene (CH).

Background: Hospital admissions for cardiogenic shock have increased in the United States. Temporary mechanical circulatory support (tMCS) can be used to acutely stabilize patients. We sought to evaluate the presence of racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic inequities in access to MCS in the United States among patients with cardiogenic shock.

Even if return of spontaneous circulation is achieved, cardiogenic shock (CS) is common. Venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA-ECMO) supports patients with CS and is often used in conjunction with an Impella device (2.

Objective: To investigate the mechanism by which COVID-19 activates the pulmonary endothelium and drives pro-inflammatory phenotypes.
Objective: Donation after circulatory death (DCD) donors offer the ability to expand the lung donor pool and ex vivo lung perfusion (EVLP) further contributes to this ability by allowing for additional evaluation and resuscitation of these extended criteria donors. We sought to determine the outcomes of recipients receiving organs from DCD EVLP donors in a multicenter setting.
Methods: This was an unplanned post hoc analysis of a multicenter, prospective, nonrandomized trial that took place during 2011 to 2017 with 3 years of follow-up.
Background: The efficacy of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) as a bridge to left ventricular assist device (LVAD) remains unclear, and recipients of the more contemporary HeartMate 3 (HM3) LVAD are not well represented in previous studies. We therefore undertook a multicenter, retrospective study of this population.
Methods And Results: INTERMACS 1 LVAD recipients from five U.
Mechanical circulatory support (MCS) as a bridge to lung transplant is an infrequent but accepted pathway in patients who have refractory end-stage pulmonary failure. The American Association of Thoracic Surgeons Expert Consensus Guidelines, published in 2023, recommends venovenous (VV) extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) as the initial configuration for those patients who have failed conventional medical therapy, including mechanical ventilation, while waiting for lung transplantation and needing MCS. Alternatively, venoarterial (VA) ECMO can be used in patients with acute right ventricular failure, hemodynamic instability, or refractory respiratory failure.

A major challenge to studying this is the relative paucity of datasets of patients with dementia, with/without HFpEF, and relevant neuroimaging. We sought to demonstrate the feasibility of using modern data mining tools to create and analyze clinical imaging datasets and identify the neuroanatomical signature of HFpEF-associated dementia.

Introduction: The rate of hospital readmission within 30 days of discharge is a quality indicator in health care. Paediatric patients with complex chronic conditions have high readmission rates. Failure in the transition between hospital and home care could explain this phenomenon.

A more granular understanding of the fundamental mechanisms driving reconstitution of lung endothelium is necessary to facilitate therapeutic vascular repair. Here, we demonstrated that TGF-β signaling through TGF-βR2 (transforming growth factor-β receptor 2) is activated in pulmonary ECs upon influenza infection, and mice deficient in endothelial exhibited prolonged injury and diminished vascular repair.

Upon consumption, nut particles of various sizes containing lipids entrapped by the plant cell walls enter the large intestine where they are fermented by the resident microbiota. This study investigated the microbial community shifts during fermentation of almond and macadamia substrates, of two particle sizes including fine particles (F = 250-500 μm) and cell clusters (CC = 710-1000 μm).
