Avoiding missed opportunities in AI for radiology.

Purpose: In the last decade, the development of Deep Learning and its variants, based on the application of artificial neural networks, has reinvigorated Artificial Intelligence (AI). As a result, many new applications of AI in medicine, especially Radiology, have been introduced. This resurgence in AI, and its diverse clinical and nonclinical applications throughout healthcare, requires a thorough understanding to reap the potential benefits and avoid the potential pitfalls.

Development and validation of the caregiver-report version of the international depression questionnaire (IDQ-CG) and international anxiety questionnaire (IAQ-CG).

The International Depression Questionnaire (IDQ) and International Anxiety Questionnaire (IAQ) are self-report measures of ICD-11 single episode depressive disorder (DD) and generalised anxiety disorder (GAD). The present study sought to describe the development and psychometric evaluation of the caregiver-report versions of the IDQ and IAQ for children, referred to as the IDQ-CG and IAQ-CG, respectively. Participants were 639 parents living in Ukraine who provided data on themselves and one child in their household as part of "The Mental Health of Parents and Children in Ukraine Study: 2023 Follow-up" study.

Transitioning from interventional radiology: ideas for the inevitable.

Background: Interventional Radiology (IR) is a highly rewarding specialty, both for its salutary effects for patients, as will as the satisfaction it provides for the operating radiologists. Nonetheless, arduous work and long hours have led to numerous reports of burnout amongst interventional radiologists (IRs).

Materials And Methods: Six long-term academic radiologists in leadership positions briefly chronicle their becoming IRs, their type of transitioning from IR, and the pros and cons of those respective transitions.

CBT+ Training Initiative in Washington State Community Mental Health: An Evaluation of Child Clinical Outcomes.

The Washington State CBT+  Initiative offers a flexible training and consultation approach for community mental health providers in evidence-based practices for four child mental health targets: cognitive behavioral therapy for depression, anxiety, trauma, and behavioral difficulties. As part of consultation, clinicians used an online system to track delivery of treatment components and clinical outcomes using standardized symptom measures. The current study used these clinician-input data to examine symptom change for children using paired sample t-tests.

The differential impact of the DSM-5 post-traumatic stress symptoms on functional impairment in traumatized children and adolescents.

Background: This study aims to provide a better understanding of the individual impact of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition (DSM-5) post-traumatic stress symptoms (PTSS) on functional impairment in trauma-exposed children and adolescents. Identifying PTSS that have the most impact on functional impairment can broaden our understanding of post-trauma reactions and guide the selection of treatment components and techniques required to help patients to restore functioning following trauma exposure.

Method: Utilizing relative importance analyses, unique shared variance of each DSM-5 PTSS with functional impairment were estimated in clinical samples of 3400 Norwegian (M = 14.

Development of an Anticipatory Triage-Ranking Algorithm Using Dynamic Simulation of the Expected Time Course of Patients With Trauma: Modeling and Simulation Study.

Background: In cases of terrorism, disasters, or mass casualty incidents, far-reaching life-and-death decisions about prioritizing patients are currently made using triage algorithms that focus solely on the patient's current health status rather than their prognosis, thus leaving a fatal gap of patients who are under- or overtriaged.

Objective: The aim of this proof-of-concept study is to demonstrate a novel approach for triage that no longer classifies patients into triage categories but ranks their urgency according to the anticipated survival time without intervention. Using this approach, we aim to improve the prioritization of casualties by respecting individual injury patterns and vital signs, survival likelihoods, and the availability of rescue resources.

Cognitive Processing Therapy or Relapse Prevention for comorbid Posttraumatic Stress Disorder and Alcohol Use Disorder: A randomized clinical trial.

Objective: To compare a Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) treatment (Cognitive Processing Therapy; CPT), an Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD) treatment (Relapse Prevention; RP), and assessment-only (AO) for those meeting diagnostic criteria for both PTSD and AUD.

Method: Participants with current PTSD/AUD (N = 101; mean age = 42.10; 56% female) were initially randomized to CPT, RP, or AO and assessed post-treatment or 6-weeks post-randomization (AO).

The child and Adolescent Trauma Screen 2 (CATS-2) - validation of an instrument to measure DSM-5 and ICD-11 PTSD and complex PTSD in children and adolescents.

Background: The study examined the psychometric properties of the Child and Adolescent Trauma Screen 2 (CATS-2) as a measure of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) according to DSM-5 and (Complex) PTSD following the ICD-11 criteria in children and adolescents (7-17 years).

Methods: Psychometric properties were investigated in an international sample of traumatized children and adolescents ( = 283) and their caregivers ( = 255). We examined the internal consistency (α), convergent and discriminant validity, the factor structure of the CATS-2 total scores, latent classes of PTSD/Complex PTSD (CPTSD) discrimination, as well as the diagnostic utility using ROC-curves.

Transitioning to Telehealth for COVID-19 and Beyond: Perspectives of Community Mental Health Clinicians.

In response to COVID-19, mental health clinics transitioned to telehealth to maintain psychotherapy delivery. Community mental health (CMH) settings, which are often under-resourced, likely experienced many barriers. This study examined CMH clinicians' experiences transitioning to telehealth.

The clinical day at CARS: philosophy, strategy, and the future.

Purpose: For over three decades, the Computer-Assisted Radiology and Surgery (CARS) International Congress and Exhibition has provided a forum for the presentation of innovations in computer applications in radiology, medicine, and surgery. A unique feature of the CARS meetings is the interplay between scientists, engineers, and physicians. Since 2007, a Clinical Day program was introduced to the Congress highlighting the practical applications of new technology within the context of clinical medical and surgical practice.

Update and Supplementary Articles Proteins of SARS CoV-2, Which Causes COVID-19, and the Interacting Proteins.

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), which is the pandemic caused by the virus, severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS CoV-2), first appearing in December 2019, continues to confound the world. In this update we provide insights into how some of the new mutant variant strains of SARS CoV-2 have evolved to be more infective. We also introduce our supplement of the special issue on the topic of the proteins of SARS CoV-2 in the Protein Journal, which follows this introduction.

Case report: Atypical polycystic kidney disease.

Atypical or unilateral polycystic kidney disease is a rare entity that is found incidentally and is characterized on imaging as asymmetric or unilateral distribution of cysts confined to the kidneys. We present a case of an incidental finding of atypical polycystic kidney disease in a 72-year-old male. Computed tomography imaging showed asymmetric distribution of cysts only in the kidneys and the patient had no genitourinary symptoms, had normal renal function, and did not have a family history of renal disease.
