The objective of the present in vitro study was to evaluate micro-tensile bond strength (µSBS) of MTA cements to composite resin using a universal adhesive after internal bleaching procedure, and to examine surface characteristics of MTA cements exposed to bleaching agents. MTA specimens were divided into three subgroups according to the bleaching agent used which were, 37% carbamide peroxide (CP), 35% hydrogen peroxide (HP), and no exposure as a control group (n = 12). After exposure to bleaching agent, composite resins were applied to MTA surfaces using a universal adhesive in self-etch mode.

The purpose of this study was the design ibuprofen (IBU)-loaded unique Eudragit RS 100 (ERS) and/or octadecylamine modified PLGA nanoparticles (NPs) for cancer treatment. The rational for this approach is to bring a new approach to cancer treatment with modification of IBU-loaded PLGA NPs with ERS and/or octadecylamine by means of smaller particle size (PS), cationic surface, biocompatible nature, and investigating their selective efficacy on lung cell lines (A549 lung cancer cell and CCD-19Lu normal cell line). IBU encapsulated PLGA-based NPs were prepared and characterized for physical and solid-state analyses.

Spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) is a vascular brain disease that causes very high rates of death and disability. Whether surgical or medical treatment is more appropriate is controversial. The purpose of the study was to examine the morbidity and mortality rates of surgical and medical therapy and their differences in order to determine which patients should be operated.

Objective: Community Partners in Care, a community-partnered, cluster-randomized trial with depressed clients from 95 Los Angeles health and community programs, examined the added value of a community coalition approach (Community Engagement and Planning [CEP]) versus individual program technical assistance (Resources for Services [RS]) to implement depression collaborative care in underserved communities. This exploratory subanalysis examines 6- and 12-month outcomes among CPIC participants aged >50 years.

Design: Community-partnered, cluster-randomized trial conducted between April 2010 and March 2012.

Background: Recognition and diagnosis of concussion is increasing, but current research shows these patients are discharged from the emergency department (ED) with a wide variability of recommendations and instructions.

Objective: To assess the adequacy of documentation of discharge instructions given to patients discharged from the ED with concussions.

Methods: This was a quality-improvement study conducted at a University-based Level I trauma center.

Aim: Our aim was to determine whether a combination of sagittal index (SI), canal compromise (CC), and loss of vertebral body height (LVBH) is associated with the severity of neurological injury in patients with thoracolumbar burst fractures.

Materials And Methods: Seventy-four patients with thoracolumbar burst fracture undergoing instrumentation between 2010 and 2015 were analyzed retrospectively. The degree of neurological injury was determined using the American Spinal Injury Association (ASIA) scoring system.

Aim: Despite technical and medical advances, aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhages (SAH) continue to be a challenging pathology, associated with high rates of morbidity and mortality. In this regard, a definition is required of the various prognostic indicators of an SAH. The aim of the present retrospective study is to examine the various prognostic factors of the clinical outcomes of the patients who underwent a neurosurgical clipping of aneurysms due to aneurysmal SAH.

Whether a brain abscess is apparent by imaging depends on the stage of the abscess at the time of imaging, as well as the etiology of the infection. Because conventional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is limited in its ability to distinguish brain abscesses from necrotic tumors, advanced techniques are required. The management of these two disease entities differs and can potentially affect the clinical outcome.

In the present study chitosan based gel formulations containing Egg Yolk Oil (EYO) and Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF) were formulated successfully aiming at enhanced topical treatment of dermal burns the combination of traditional approaches with modern drug delivery systems. Physicochemical properties of the formulations were analyzed and efficacy of the formulations prepared were evaluated versus a commercial product; Silverdin (1% silver sulfadiazine) in vivo on Wistar rats. Burns were generated on the back of the rats and at predetermined time intervals tissue samples were collected and evaluated histologically.

Mucoceles are cystic lesions of the paranasal sinuses which develop as a result of accumulation of mucous secretion due to obstruction of the ostium of the sinuses. Despite their benign behavior, they may enlarge progressively and project into adjacent structures by destructing the bony walls of the sinuses. Frontal mucoceles may get infected and extend towards orbital cavity and compress the orbit by eroding the bony walls of the orbital cavity.

Background: A few studies suggest that an increasing clinical workload does not adversely affect quality of teaching in the Emergency Department (ED); however, the impact of clinical teaching on productivity is unknown.

Objectives: The primary objective of this study was to determine whether there was a difference in relative value units (RVUs) billed by faculty members when an acting internship (AI) student is on shift. Secondary objectives include comparing RVUs billed by individual faculty members and in different locations.

Background: The Standardized Letter of Recommendation (SLOR) was developed in an attempt to standardize the evaluation of applicants to an emergency medicine (EM) residency.

Objective: Our aim was to determine whether the Global Assessment Score (GAS) and Likelihood of Matching Assessment (LOMA) of the SLOR for applicants applying to an EM residency are affected by the experience of the letter writer. We describe the distribution of GAS and LOMA grades and compare the GAS and LOMA scores to length of time an applicant knew the letter writer and number of EM rotations.
