An unusual case of deep vein thrombosis of the upper extremity following breast reduction.

Breast reduction surgery is a commonly performed procedure relieving physical discomfort and improving quality of life for individuals with macromastia. Despite its benefits, there are inherent risks associated with surgical intervention, one of which is the development of deep vein thrombosis (DVT). This relatively rare complication can lead to significant morbidity and mortality if not recognized and managed properly.

Cutaneous rhabdomyosarcoma with FUS::TFCP2 fusion: A case report emphasizing early detection.

Rhabdomyosarcoma with TFCP2 rearrangement is a recently identified malignant neoplasm characterized by immunohistochemical evidence of rhabdomyoblastic differentiation, keratin expression, upregulation of ALK, and an aggressive clinical course. This neoplasm has a tendency to affect craniofacial bones, with only a few reported cases of extra-osseous tumors. Here, we present a case of cutaneous rhabdomyosarcoma with FUS::TFCP2 fusion in a 35-year-old female.

Skin avulsion injury during endotracheal tube extubation - case report of an unusual complication.

We report a geriatric case with a full-thickness skin avulsion injury during extubation due to a tube securing tape used to fixate the endotracheal tube. The avulsed skin was sutured back to its original place. Based on this single geriatric patient, we recommend anesthesiologists/anesthetists and surgeons be aware of the potential risk of avulsing the skin with tape during a standard extubation procedure.

Use of gabapentine (neurantin) for relief of intractable pain developed after face-lift surgery.

Complications of rhytidectomy, technically one of the most challenging operations of the aesthetic surgery, have been widely reported in the literature and nerve injuries are one of these possible complications during facial rejuvenation surgery. Beside the injuries of motor branches of the facial nerve, complaints of numbness and development of neuromas due to sensorial nerve injuries were reported in the literature. In this particular reported case, however, complaints of a 52-year-old woman, presented with diffuse intractable pain in her left cheek radiating to the neck and behind the ear after facial rejuvenation surgery, improved dramatically by use of gabapentine.

Gene therapy with adenovirus-mediated VEGF enhances skin flap prefabrication.

We investigated the feasibility in rats of enhancing skin-flap prefabrication with subdermal injections of adenovirus-encoding vascular endothelial growth factor (Ad-VEGF). The left saphenous vascular pedicle was used as a source for vascular induction. A peninsular abdominal flap (8 x 8 cm) was elevated as distally based, keeping the epigastric vessels intact on both sides.
