The study utilized high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) to analyze a 5kDa component from enamel matrix derivative (EMD), which is used in periodontal regeneration.
Initial purification was done with size-exclusion chromatography (SEC), and subsequent analysis revealed four distinct peaks of the 5kDa component through reversed-phase HPLC (RP HPLC).
From an initial 1200 mg of EMD, about 65 mg of the 5kDa component was obtained, achieving a 60% recovery rate, with SEC being suitable for qualitative and RP HPLC suitable for both qualitative and quantitative analysis.
