Hydatid disease, caused by Echinococcus granulosus, remains a significant health concern in endemic regions. This case report aims to highlight the diagnostic challenges of pulmonary hydatid cysts in non-endemic areas, presenting a unique case of an incidental pulmonary hydatid cyst in a 31-year-old lactating female discovered during evaluation of non-specific constitutional symptoms.

We measured the relative vaccine effectiveness (rVE) of the second booster dose of COVID-19 vaccine compared to the first booster, against laboratory-confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection in HCWs.
Methods: In a prospective cohort study among HCWs from 12 European hospitals, we collected nasopharyngeal or saliva samples at enrolment and during weekly/fortnightly follow-up between October 2022 and May 2023.
Background: The escalating climate crisis poses a significant threat to global public health. The healthcare sector, designed to protect human health is a major contributor to greenhouse gas emissions, and thus, a key driver of climate degradation. This paradox endangers both planetary and human health, making the decarbonization of healthcare, including primary care, critical.

We established a multi-country hospital network to measure the SARS-CoV-2 incidence and effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccines among HCWs against laboratory-confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection. HCWs from 19 hospitals in 10 countries participated in a dynamic prospective cohort study, providing samples for SARS-CoV-2 testing at enrolment and during weekly/fortnightly follow-up.

We hypothesised that HCWs with frequent symptomatic COVID-19 have impaired T and B cell mediated immunity to SARS-CoV-2.

Methods: We reviewed the management and outcomes of anal cancer cases over a seven-year period, inclusive (2016-2023). The primary objectives were to assess the demographic characteristics, clinical presentation, and outcomes of all anal cancer patients within our institution.
Background: Enhancing residency recruitment with modifications to interviews has been an area of national interest, further catalyzed by the transition to universal virtual interviewing (UVI). In 2018, our internal medicine residency program redesigned the recruitment process using virtual interviews.
Objective: Evaluating this recruitment model allows programs to identify applicant perceptions of each component as they consider enhancements.
In clinical research, the analysis of patient cohorts is a widely employed method for investigating relevant healthcare questions. The ability to automatically extract large-scale patient cohorts from hospital systems is vital in order to unlock the potential of real-world clinical data, and answer pivotal medical questions through retrospective research studies. However, existing medical data is often dispersed across various systems and databases, preventing a systematic approach to access and interoperability.

While the rapid development of many vaccines provided an end to the immediate crisis, there remains an urgent need to understand more about this new virus and what constitutes a beneficial immune response in terms of successful resolution of infection. Indeed, this is key for development of vaccines that provide long lasting protective immunity.

We investigate the burden of HCW illness and its associated direct health care personnel costs in the setting of widespread vaccine availability and explore factors influencing these outcomes.
Methods: This multicenter prospective study followed HCWs over an 8-month period from January to August 2023.
Background: Healthcare workers (HCWs) are at increased risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection. This risk persists despite the implementation of mitigating factors, including vaccination. The ongoing impact of incident SARS-CoV-2 infection and symptomatic COVID-19 disease in vaccinated HCWs is poorly understood.

Targeting G9a histone methyltransferase (HMTase) effectively blocks CSC functions in colorectal tumors by altering pluripotent-like molecular networks; however, existing molecules directly targeting G9a HMTase activity failed to reach clinical stages due to safety concerns. Using a stem cell-based phenotypic drug-screening pipeline, we identified the dopamine transporter (DAT) antagonist vanoxerine, a compound with previously demonstrated clinical safety, as a cancer-specific downregulator of G9a expression.

We assessed the measurement properties of the Episodic Disability Questionnaire (EDQ) with adults living with HIV.
Methods: We conducted a measurement study with adults living with HIV in eight clinical settings in Canada, Ireland, United Kingdom, and United States.
The prevention of SARS-CoV-2 acquisition and transmission among healthcare workers is an ongoing challenge. Vaccination has been introduced to mitigate these risks. Vaccine uptake varies among healthcare workers in the absence of vaccine mandates.

A rapid and effective point of care test (POCT) assessment of SARS-CoV-2 immune responses can inform clinical decision-making and epidemiological monitoring of the disease. This cross-sectional seroprevalence study of anti-SARS-CoV-2 antibodies in Irish healthcare workers assessed how rapid anti-SARS-CoV-2 antibody testing can be compared to a standard laboratory assay, discusses its effectiveness in neutralisation assessment and its uses into the future of the pandemic.

Indicative of a cell type-specific effect, LINE1 sequences in colonic epithelium showed lower levels of DNA methylation compared to other cell types examined in the study. Consistent with a role for DNA methylation in transposon silencing, the decreases in DNA methylation observed at LINE1 elements in colonic epithelium were accompanied by increases in LINE1 mRNA levels.

Here, using a chemical genomic approach, we provide biological evidence that early germ layer fate decisions of hPSCs reveal targets of human cancers. Single-cell deconstruction of hPSCs-defined subsets that share transcriptional patterns with transformed adult tissues.

Characterizing SDOH burden can help improve the design of patient support programs (PSPs), using targeted approaches to remove barriers to access.
Methods: This study used a mixed-methods strategy employing a quantitative survey, which was designed based on qualitative interviews, to understand the unmet needs and awareness/utilization of PSPs among individuals living with generalized myasthenia gravis (gMG) and experiencing SDOH barriers.
People living with HIV (PLWH) are living longer and are becoming increasingly susceptible to multi-morbidity resulting in disability. Physiotherapy is an important component in the care of PLWH, increasing functional capacity and quality of life. However, few PLWH access physiotherapy services due to a lack of specialised services, relapses in medical conditions and financial barriers.
