In pediatric hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) recipients, transplanted donor cells may need to function far beyond normal human lifespan. Here, we investigated the risk of clonal hematopoiesis (CH) in 144 pediatric long-term HCT survivors and 258 non-transplanted controls. CH was detected in 16% of HCT recipients and 8% of controls, at variant allele frequencies (VAFs) of 0.

Non-target organisms are commonly exposed to glyphosate as a matter of its mode of application, with its broader environmental and biological impacts remaining under investigation. Glyphosate displays structural similarity to phosphoenolpyruvate (PEP), thereby competitively inhibiting the 5-enolpyruvylshikimate-3-phosphate synthase (EPSPS), crucial for the synthesis of aromatic amino acids in plants, fungi, bacteria, and archaea.

This study reviews the technical aspects, clinical outcomes, and complications of translumbar and transhepatic tunneled dialysis catheter (TDC) placements. These alternative infradiaphragmatic approaches provide essential hemodialysis access for patients with central venous occlusions.

However, this theory was largely based on a series of early case reports without substantiation in larger-scale studies.
Hypothesis/purpose: The purpose of this study is to conduct a population-level analysis of the incidence and risk factors of acute compartment syndrome following pediatric tibial tubercle and tibial shaft fractures.
Objective: Tibial tubercle avulsion fractures (TTAFs) represent 0.4% to 2.7% of pediatric physeal injuries.

This study investigated whether the declining expression of growth factors during postnatal mammalian development contributes to the decrease of cardiomyocyte regenerative potential. Besides confirming the proliferative ability of neuregulin 1 (NRG1), interleukin (IL)1b, receptor activator of nuclear factor kappa-Β ligand (RANKL), insulin growth factor (IGF)2, and IL6, we identified other potential pro-regenerative factors, with BMP7 exhibiting the most pronounced efficacy.

Methods: A retrospective chart review was completed of patients 21 years old and younger from our institution with a history of knee sports injury (ligamentous/soft tissue injury, structural abnormality, instability, inflammation) evaluated with MRI between 5/26/2017 and 12/28/2020. Patients were from three states and attended to by physicians associated with an urban academic institution.
The transcription factor Growth Factor Independence 1B (GFI1B) recruits Lysine Specific Demethylase 1 A (LSD1/KDM1A) to stimulate gene programs relevant for megakaryocyte and platelet biology. Inherited pathogenic GFI1B variants result in thrombocytopenia and bleeding propensities with varying intensity. Whether these affect similar gene programs is unknow.

The key to optimize quantum coherence lies in reducing the detrimental influence of noise sources such as spin noise and charge noise. Here we demonstrate that we can utilize highly-excited Rydberg excitons to neutralize charged impurities in the semiconductor Cuprous Oxide - an effect we call purification.

The therapeutic drugs propylthiouracil (PTU) and phenytoin are known to induce hypothyroidism and decrease blood thyroid hormone levels. To analyze the impact of these two drugs on systemic metabolism, we focused on metabolic changes after treatment.

Here, we investigated the association between platelet count abnormalities, CH and consequences on overall survival and the development of hematological malignancies. Individuals with thrombocytopenia (n = 631) or thrombocytosis (n = 178) ≥60 years, and their age- and sex-matched controls, were selected within the population-based Lifelines cohort (n = 167,729).

This study assessed gut microbiota effect on the biotransformation of metabolites both in vitro and ex vivo.

Objective: To qualitatively evaluate experiences of students who are food secure and food insecure with internal and external factors related to food insecurity.

We present a case report of a patient who is a non-cirrhotic with portal cavernous transformation secondary to previous trauma. The patient presents with portal biliopathy requiring ERCP/EUS with biliary stenting. The patient was referred to Interventional Radiology (IR) for portal vein recanalization.

Developmental cues orient motile cilia, but how cilia are locked into their final position to maintain a directional flow is not understood. Here we find that the actin cytoskeleton is highly dynamic during early development of multiciliated cells (MCCs).

Background: A career in hand surgery in the United States requires a 1-year fellowship after residency training. Different residency specialty programs may vary in case volume. The purpose of this study was to characterize variation in hand surgery training within and between orthopaedic and plastic surgery residents.

A genomic locus 8 kb downstream of the transcription factor GFI1B (Growth Factor Independence 1B) predisposes to clonal hematopoiesis and myeloproliferative neoplasms. One of the most significantly associated polymorphisms in this region is rs621940-G. GFI1B auto-represses GFI1B, and altered GFI1B expression contributes to myeloid neoplasms.
