A study is presented of the effect of social factors on the outcomes of pulmonary tuberculosis in patients with freshly detected disease mainly in rural localities in 1985-1989. The outcomes of treatment depended mainly on the form and extension of the pathological process and terms of treatment. It was also established that the outcomes of tuberculosis are also influenced by unfavourable social factors which are more pronounced in persons with an extensive process.

The results of treatment of 224 patients with newly-diagnosed destructive pulmonary tuberculosis were analysed. These patients were divided into 4 groups in relation to the pathologic nature and chemotherapeutic regimen. The most effective results were produced in case of a simultaneous administration of 4 arrtituberculosis drugs irrespective of the pathologic nature.

The method of chemiluminometry was used to examine the citrate blood plasma and pleural exudate of 186 patients with exudative pleurisy of tuberculous, parapneumonic and tumour etiology. It was shown that the proposed method is highly informative, simple in realization, objective in evaluation of obtained data. The method enables in 24 hours to gain information on the nature of pleural lesions.
