In the fission yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe, nitrogen starvation has distinct physiological consequences depending on the presence of mating partners. In their absence, cells enter quiescence, and TORC1 inactivation prolongs their life.

Brakes and leverages for reducing the environmental impact of laboratory animal facilities: A case study at the Institut Pasteur.

The Institut Pasteur has set the ambition to encourage all staff to get involved in sustainable development across all departments on campus. The animal facility staff joined the efforts of the sustainable development department to analyse current and future processes and identify potential solutions and related brakes and leverages for the reduction of the animal facilities' environmental impact. The first step was to collect the managers' experience on the local initiatives.

These findings have prompted various experimental trials aimed at inhibiting PLK2 kinase activity in different transgenic mouse models of AD. While positive impacts on cognitive decline were reported in these studies, the cellular effects remained controversial.

Background: Little is known about post-hospital health care resource use (HRU) of patients admitted for severe COVID-19, specifically for the care of patients with postacute COVID-19 syndrome (PACS).

Objective: A list of HRU domains and items potentially related to PACS was defined, and potential PACS-related HRU (PPRH) was compared between the pre- and post-COVID-19 periods, to identify new outpatient care likely related to PACS.

Methods: A retrospective cohort study was conducted with the French National Health System claims data (SNDS).

Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination coverage among French adolescents: A claims data study.

Background: The French cancer control strategy 2021-2030 aims to achieve 80 % human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination coverage. Since 2021, HPV vaccination is also recommended for boys aged 11-14 years, with a catch-up vaccination recommended for unvaccinated adolescents aged ≤19 years. The PAPILLON study used claims data to monitor the evolution of HPV Vaccination Coverage Rate (VCR) in the French population.

Health care resource utilization preceding death or lung transplantation in people with cystic fibrosis: HCRU before transplant or death in cystic fibrosis.

Background: We studied the health care resource utilization (HCRU) and associated costs in the year preceding LT in pwCF or death without LT, and we estimated the overall cost of LT.

Methods: We performed a linkage between 2006 and 2017 data from the French CF Registry (FCFR) and the French health claims database (Système National des Données de Santé; SNDS). The HCRU and associated costs were described the year before LT or before death without LT, and two years after LT.

Non-invasive systemic viral delivery of human alpha-synuclein mimics selective and progressive neuropathology of Parkinson's disease in rodent brains.

Background: Alpha-synuclein (α-syn) aggregation into proteinaceous intraneuronal inclusions, called Lewy bodies (LBs), is the neuropathological hallmark of Parkinson's disease (PD) and related synucleinopathies. However, the exact role of α-syn inclusions in PD pathogenesis remains elusive. This lack of knowledge is mainly due to the absence of optimal α-syn-based animal models that recapitulate the different stages of neurodegeneration.

Mediating effect of sleep in the association between social media use and mental health among French adolescents during the COVID-19 sanitary crisis.

Objective/background: Social media use could have deleterious effects on mental health through short sleep duration and poor sleep quality among adolescents. This study aimed to investigate the mediating role of both sleep duration and sleep quality in the association between social media use and mental health among adolescents.

Patients/methods: We used cross-sectional data collected from adolescents in the EXIST pilot project conducted during COVID-19 pandemic.

Adaptive behaviors and related factors in children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorder: Report from ELENA cohort.

There are strong individual differences in adaptive behaviors (AB) in autism spectrum disorder (ASD) with conflicting results in literature about specific patterns and related factors. The present study aims to describe AB and identify related factors in terms of clinical and socio-familial characteristics in 875 children and adolescents with ASD in the multiregional ELENA cohort in France. Results showed that AB in children and adolescents with ASD were lower than in typically developing subjects, regardless of age group.

Abdominal Pseudoaneurysms in Patients With High-Grade Traumatic Injuries.

Utilization of CT scans in the work-up of trauma patients has led to increasing diagnosis of traumatic pseudoaneurysms (PSAs). While rare, PSAs have devastating consequences if ruptured. Evidence for the benefit of early detection of PSAs is lacking.

Mice humanized for MHC and hACE2 with high permissiveness to SARS-CoV-2 omicron replication.

Human Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme 2 (hACE2) is the major receptor enabling host cell invasion by SARS-CoV-2 via interaction with Spike. The murine ACE2 does not interact efficiently with SARS-CoV-2 Spike and therefore the laboratory mouse strains are not permissive to SARS-CoV-2 replication. Here, we generated new hACE2 transgenic mice, which harbor the hACE2 gene under the human keratin 18 promoter, in "HHD-DR1" background.

Screen time and associated risks in children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorders during a discrete COVID-19 lockdown period.

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic may affect the screen time of children and adolescents with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). This study aimed to examine the screen time of children and adolescents with ASD during a discrete lockdown period in France and identify risk factors for excessive screen time.

Methods: The study sample consisted of 249 ASD subjects, 3-17 years of age, enrolled in the ELENA cohort.

Cancer incidence and prevalence in cystic fibrosis patients with and without a lung transplant in France.

Background: Cystic fibrosis (CF) care and the life expectancy of affected patients have substantially improved in recent decades, leading to an increased number of patients being diagnosed with comorbidities, including cancers. Our objective was to characterize the epidemiology of cancers between 2006 and 2017 in CF patients with and without a lung transplant.

Methods: Medical records of CF patients from 2006 to 2016 in the French CF Registry were linked to their corresponding claims data (SNDS).

Antipsychotic prescribing practices in real-life (APPREAL study): Findings from the French National Healthcare System Database (2007-2017).

Background: Antipsychotics are used in a large variety of psychiatric and neurological disorders; investigating their use in real life is important to understand national prescribing practices, as well as to determine the levels of patient adherence.

Methods: Using a 1/97e random sample (General Sample of Beneficiaries, EGB) of the French health insurance reimbursement database, we conducted a historical cohort study on the 2007-2017 period. The aim was to describe the sociodemographic characteristics of patients, the types of antipsychotics dispensed, the types of prescribers, the mean doses and average durations of treatment, the co-dispensed medications, and the levels of adherence to treatment.

Pilot study of minimally adherent silver dressings for acute surgical wounds.

Background And Aims: Minimally adherent silver dressings (SILVER MASD) are antimicrobial, nonirritating, provide a moist wound healing environment, and low cost. The purpose of this pilot, single-center, non-blinded randomized controlled trial was to quantify the outcomes of acute surgical wounds treated with MASD versus standard of care (SoC) dressings.

Methods: Thirty-two patients with acute wounds were randomized 1:1 to be treated with MASD once weekly or SoC following surgical excision of skin and/or subcutaneous tissue between September 13, 2016 and November 28, 2017.

Age-associated gut microbiota impair hippocampus-dependent memory in a vagus-dependent manner.

Aging is known to be associated with hippocampus-dependent memory decline, but the underlying causes of this age-related memory impairment remain highly debated. Here, we show that fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) from aged, but not young, animal donors into young mice is sufficient to trigger profound hippocampal alterations, including astrogliosis, decreased adult neurogenesis, decreased novelty-induced neuronal activation, and impairment in hippocampus-dependent memory. Furthermore, similar alterations were reported when mice were subjected to an FMT from aged human donors.

A light-inducible protein clustering system for in vivo analysis of α-synuclein aggregation in Parkinson disease.

Neurodegenerative disorders refer to a group of diseases commonly associated with abnormal protein accumulation and aggregation in the central nervous system. However, the exact role of protein aggregation in the pathophysiology of these disorders remains unclear. This gap in knowledge is due to the lack of experimental models that allow for the spatiotemporal control of protein aggregation, and the investigation of early dynamic events associated with inclusion formation.

Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine coverage rates (VCRs) in France: A French claims data study.

Background: The French Cancer Plan 2014-2019 had a target of 60% HPV vaccine coverage. The PAPILLON study investigated the annual age-specific vaccination initiation rates and cumulative partial and complete vaccination rates in France from 2017 to 2022. It also identified the factors associated with vaccination in different age groups and those associated with the type of completion of the vaccination scheme (partial vs full vaccination).
