Aim: To comprehensively review the literature on multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C).
Methods: Narrative review of relevant studies published between April 2020 and January 2024.
Results: MIS-C is a SARS-CoV-2-related hyperinflammatory syndrome developing 2-6 weeks after COVID-19 in genetically susceptible individuals.
Childhood-onset systemic lupus erythematosus is an inflammatory and autoimmune condition characterized by heterogeneous multisystem involvement and a chronic course with unpredictable flares. Kidney involvement, commonly called lupus nephritis, mainly presents with immune complex-mediated glomerulonephritis and is more frequent and severe in adults. Despite a considerable improvement in long-term renal prognosis, children and adolescents with lupus nephritis still experience significant morbidity and mortality.

Background: The changes in endothelial function, arterial stiffness, and heart rate variability (HRV) produced in the first trimester of pregnancy in women who develop gestational hypertension (GH) are still being investigated. Objective: to evaluate the HVR, endothelial function, and arterial stiffness changes during the first trimester of pregnancy and their relationship with the development of GH.
Methods: A group of women normotensive during the first trimester (n = 43), who later did (GH; n = 11) or did not (no-GH; n = 32) develop GH in that pregnancy, were enrolled.
Background: Hip dislocation is a common source of pain in children with neurologic impairment. When medical interventions fail, orthopedic surgery does not guarantee a definitive result as the displacement may continue postoperatively and a second operation is often required.
Methods: Retrospective analysis of data regarding the safety and effectiveness of an intra-articular corticosteroid injection (IACI) in 11 patients, aged 15 ± 5 years old, collected through a telephonic questionnaire administered to parents.
Unlabelled: In this multicenter retrospective study we aimed to evaluate the outcome of cardiac involvement in children affected by multisystem inflammatory syndrome (MIS-C), assessed through cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR). Children referring to three Italian tertiary pediatric centers between February 2020 and November 2021 with a diagnosis of MIS-C, who underwent CMR during a follow-up visit, were enrolled. Demographic, clinical, laboratory, treatment, and outcome data were collected.

We aimed at assessing the prevalence of SARS-CoV-2 IgG antibodies in children at three subsequent time-points. The study was conducted between January 2021 and July 2021 among children referring to the Research Institute for Maternal and Child Health "Burlo Garofolo" in Trieste, a referral regional hospital in Friuli Venezia Giulia, Italy.

As a result, much assistance is required with activities of daily living. Since these patients are often unable to self-report pain, or they may exhibit uncommon behaviors when suffering, pain manifestations may go unrecognized.

In newborns, cortisol deficiency causes delayed bile acid synthesis and transport maturation, determining prolonged cholestatic jaundice. Subclinical adrenal insufficiency is a particular challenge for a pediatric endocrinologist, representing the preclinical stage of acute adrenal insufficiency.

This prospective study performed in pregnant (PG) women and after delivery (not pregnant: NPG) evaluated the endothelial function (EF) and arterial stiffness (AS) by a non-invasive method. We evaluated the heart rate variability (HRV), parasympathetic nervous system (PNS), sympathetic nervous system (SNS) indexes by electrocardiogram (5 min) and the urinary nitrite excretion (NOx).

While the association between IIMs and malignancy has been widely reported in adults, cancer-associated myositis (CAM) is rare in children, so that routine malignancy screening is not generally performed. This report shows a case of severe CAM in a child.

We genetically and phenotypically investigated many-noded dwarf (mnd) mutants in barley. The mnd mutants exhibited a shortened plastochron and a decreased leaf blade length, and resembled previously reported plastochron1 (pla1), pla2, and pla3 mutants in rice.

A 3-month epidemiological study to determine the prevalence and antibiotic resistance of Staphylococcus aureus nosocomial infections was performed in 52 centres throughout Italy in 2012. A total of 21,873 pathogens were analysed. The prevalence of S.

The results provide solid evidence that HRMT could be a fast, cost-effective and reliable alternative to MLST, for MRSA molecular epidemiology.

Methods: 2 different European centers collected pre- and postoperative sperm parameters of patients undergoing varicocele correction.
Unlabelled: What's known on the subject? and What does the study add? Upper Urinary Tract (UUT) Transitional Cell Carcinoma (TCC) is an uncommon disease and represents approximately 5% of all urothelial carcinomas. We report our series on 73 patients treated with Kidney Sparing Surgery for UUT TCC. Good results have been achieved in terms of oncological outcome comparing this conservative approach to the radical nephrourectomy.

Our goal was to construct a neoclitoris, which is wet and covered with urethral neoprepuce. Since 1995 more than 300 transgender MtF patients have been operated at our institution.

Although rarely fatal, acute scrotal pathology can result in testicle infarction and necrosis, testicular atrophy, infertility, and significant morbidity.
Methods: Scrotal US is best performed with a linear 7.
Introduction: Oxidative stress is one mechanism that could contribute to the acceleration of aging and age-related diseases. On the other hand, because of their antioxidative qualities soybean derived foods could have beneficial effects on the aging process.
Objectives: The aim of our work was to study the effects of a diet supplemented with soy milk on certain biological features of aging in rats.

Objective: We evaluated the impact of removal of the tumour bearing testis on semen quality in men with testicular cancer and the effect of tumour histologic feature on semen quality.
Material And Methods: We took into account the semen analysis before and after orchiectomy in 30 patients.
Results: The median sperm concentration before and after orchiectomy was respectively of 26.
