Knowledge of the spatial distribution of many polar seabird species is incomplete due to the remoteness of their breeding locations. Here, we compiled a new database of published and unpublished records of all known snow petrel breeding sites. We quantified local environmental conditions at sites by appending indices of climate and substrate, and regional-scale conditions by appending 30 year mean (1992-2021) sea-ice conditions within accessible foraging areas.

Factors associated with early-career GPs' retention as independent specialists in former training practices.

Introduction: Retention of general practice registrars in their training practices is important for addressing the GP workforce deficit and maldistribution of GPs. Given that rural and remote general practices are disproportionately affected by low retention, identifying the factors that promote retention may be as important as developing recruitment strategies in these areas. Quantifying the impact of relevant factors on registrar retention will enable a better understanding of how to incentivise retention and attenuate the loss of the rural workforce to other areas.

Caring for kids: Australian general practice registrar confidence in delivering paediatric primary care.

Background And Objectives: The burden of disease for Australian children from non-acute conditions is growing; however, little is known about how well prevocational training experiences prepare trainee doctors. This study examines the confidence of general practice registrars in managing paediatric consultations in primary care and whether confidence varies by prevocational training type.

Method: This was a cross-sectional national survey of Australian general practice registrars that measured confidence in managing paediatric primary care presentations.

Multiple therapies have been studied to ameliorate the neuroinhibitory cues present after traumatic injury to the central nervous system. Two previous in vitro studies have demonstrated the efficacy of the FDA-approved cardiovascular therapeutic, protamine (PRM), to overcome neuroinhibitory cues presented by chondroitin sulfates; however, the effect of a wide range of PRM concentrations on neuronal and glial cells has not been evaluated. In this study, we investigate the therapeutic efficacy of PRM with primary cortical neurons, hippocampal neurons, mixed glial cultures, and astrocyte cultures.

Feasibility and acceptability of integrating a multicomponent breastfeeding promotion intervention into routine health services in private health facilities in Lagos State, Nigeria: A mixed methods process evaluation.

Most health care providers in Lagos State, Nigeria are private and are not required to offer breastfeeding counseling to women. From May 2019-April 2020, Alive & Thrive implemented a multicomponent breastfeeding promotion intervention in private health facilities in Lagos that included training and support to implement the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative and provide breastfeeding counseling and support to pregnant women and lactating mothers in person and on WhatsApp. We conducted a mixed methods process evaluation in 10 intervention and 10 comparison private health facilities to examine the feasibility and acceptability of integrating the intervention into routine health services.

Exploring how a patient encounter tracking and learning tool is used within general practice training: a qualitative study.

Introduction In Australian general practitioner (GP) training, feedback and reflection on in-practice experience is central to developing GP registrars' (trainees') clinical competencies. Patient encounter tracking and learning tools (PETALs) that encompass an audit of consecutive patient consultations, feedback, and reflection are used to determine registrars' in-practice exposure and have been suggested as a tool for learning within a programmatic assessment framework. However, there is limited qualitative literature on the utility of PETALs in GP training.

The Kinesin-3 family members KIF13A and KIF13B are thought to mediate dendrite-selective transport, but the mechanism by which they are recruited to polarized vesicles and the differences in the specific trafficking role of each KIF13 have not been defined. We performed live-cell imaging in cultured hippocampal neurons and found that KIF13A is a dedicated dendrite-selective kinesin.

Determining Unmet Needs Among Workers' Compensation Stakeholders to Prevent Work Disability in the State of Vermont.

Purpose: Vermont has high rates of young people receiving federal disability benefits leading to substantial gaps in the workforce. The purpose of this project was to determine the unmet needs of interested parties in the workers' compensation (WC) process.

Methods: A type of focus group, experience groups, was used to elicit key parties' experiences in the WC system.

General practice registrars training part-time: a cross-sectional analysis of prevalence and associations.

While GPs are working fewer clinical hours and many GP trainees (registrars) do not foresee themselves working full-time in clinical practice, little is known of the epidemiology of registrars training part-time. We aimed to establish the prevalence of general practice part-time training (PTT), and part-time registrars' characteristics and practice patterns. A cross-sectional analysis was conducted of data from the Registrar Clinical Encounters in Training project, an ongoing cohort study of Australian GP registrars' clinical experiences over 60 consecutive consultations in each of three training terms.

Hornets are also very successful as invasive species, with often devastating economic, ecological and societal effects. Understanding why these wasps are such successful invaders is critical to managing future introductions and minimising impact on native biodiversity.

Healthy home food environments of pregnant Black women are shaped by food outlet access and participation in nutrition assistance programs.

Objectives: Improving access to healthy food in Black communities is imperative to combat intergenerational health disparities. Pregnant Black women represent an especially vulnerable population to multiple (and overlapping) sources of socioeconomic and political disenfranchisement and thus for whom maternal nutrition is crucial. This study aimed to (1) define household food environment types, (2) determine whether the distribution of community food outlets is associated with these household food environment types, and (3) determine whether the community-household food environment relationship differs by maternal education or participation in nutrition assistance programs.

Early-career general practitioners' perceptions of the utility of vocational training for subsequent independent practice.

Purpose: To evaluate Australian early-career general practitioners' perceptions of the utility of their prior vocational training in preparing them for independent specialist practice. We hypothesised that in-practice teaching would be perceived as more useful than formal education delivered by Regional Training Organisations (RTOs).

Social complexity, life-history and lineage influence the molecular basis of castes in vespid wasps.

A key mechanistic hypothesis for the evolution of division of labour in social insects is that a shared set of genes co-opted from a common solitary ancestral ground plan (a genetic toolkit for sociality) regulates caste differentiation across levels of social complexity. Using brain transcriptome data from nine species of vespid wasps, we test for overlap in differentially expressed caste genes and use machine learning models to predict castes using different gene sets. We find evidence of a shared genetic toolkit across species representing different levels of social complexity.
