Posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome (PRES) in end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) is rare, with ocular symptoms as the first manifestation being even rarer. Here, we report a case of PRES in a patient with ESKD, characterized by sudden binocular blurred vision followed by epilepsy, to improve the understanding of this syndrome among nephrologists and ophthalmologists. A 50-year-old female requested an ophthalmic consultation due to bilateral vision loss followed by generalised tonic-clonic seizures.

Background: By observing and comparing the morphological and functional differences of the ophthalmic artery (OA) in patients with ocular vascular accidents (OVAs) due to iatrogenic embolism or non-iatrogenic occlusion, we propose a classification system based on the characteristics of OA on invasive digital subtraction angiography (DSA).

Methods: All patients undergoing ophthalmic arterial DSA within 1 week after the OVAs between January 2017 and December 2021 were enrolled and divided into different types, and the differences between iatrogenic embolism and non-iatrogenic occlusion categories were compared.

Results: A total of 27 eyes of 27 patients were included in this study.

The sudden outbreak of novel coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) increased the diagnostic burden of radiologists. In the time of an epidemic crisis, we hope artificial intelligence (AI) to reduce physician workload in regions with the outbreak, and improve the diagnosis accuracy for physicians before they could acquire enough experience with the new disease.
