Oral delivery of peptides requires formulations with high concentrations of permeation enhancer (PE) to promote absorption, and often necessitates fasting time between dosing and food ingestion. Improved formulations promoting a more rapid absorption would increase convenience of use but requires a faster onset of action. We have developed a salcaprozate-based ionic liquid (IL) formulation, namely choline salcaprozate (CHONAC), for oral delivery of a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) analogue via gastric absorption.

The presented study discusses the possible disturbing effects of the electromagnetic field of antennas used in mobile phones or WiFi technologies on the pacemaker in the patient's body. This study aims to obtain information on how the thickness of skin layers (such as the thickness of the hypodermis) can affect the activity of a pacemaker exposed to a high-frequency electromagnetic field. This study describes the computational mathematical analysis and modeling of the heart pacemaker inserted under the skin exposed to various electromagnetic field sources, such as a PIFA antenna and a tuned dipole antenna.

Melatonin plays a role in blood pressure (BP) control. The aim of this study was to determine whether melatonin concentrations and melatonin receptor levels are altered in L-NAME-treated, NO-deficient hypertensive rats. Two groups of male adult Wistar rats were investigated: rats (n=36) treated with NO-synthase inhibitor L-NAME (40 mg kg(-1)) and age-matched controls (n=36).

The SOS-function-inducing activities of 36 furylethylenes were characterized in Escherichia coli K12. The induction of the SOS function was assayed by monitoring the beta-galactosidase activity in the sulA::lacZ fusion strain PQ 37. To correct for the inhibitory effects of test compounds on mRNA or protein synthesis, the level of the constitutive alkaline phosphatase was assayed in parallel.
