Lack of significant and durable clinical benefit from anti-cancer immunotherapies is partly due to the failure of cytotoxic immune cells to infiltrate the tumor microenvironment. Immune infiltration is predominantly dependent on the chemokine network, which is regulated in part by chemokine and atypical chemokine receptors. We found that rates of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) testing and reverse transcriptase (RT)-PCR-confirmed infection were approximately 50% higher in a population-based cohort of people with HIV compared with a matched cohort of people without HIV during the Omicron era (2 January 2022 to 31 March 2023) in Ontario, Canada, after controlling for age, sex, residential census tract, and country of birth. Rates of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)-related hospitalization and/or death were more than double. Differences persisted independent of vaccination, healthcare access, and COVID-19 diagnosis.

In the presence of molecular oxygen, edible oils can be oxidized to form a multitude of α,β-unsaturated carbonyl products collectively called 'lipid-derived electrophiles'. These molecules affect the taste of fat-containing foods but also act as electrophiles by covalently binding to protein amines/thiols and DNA nucleotides. The chemical modification of proteins by lipid-derived electrophiles appears to play an important role in human health, but the quantification of this diverse class of compounds remains a challenge.

Accurate assessment of coal mine methane (CMM) emissions is a prerequisite for defining baselines and assessing the effectiveness of mitigation measures. Introduction: The ongoing opioid overdose crisis, which has killed over 30,000 people in Canada since 2016, is driven by the volatility of an unregulated opioid drug supply comprised primarily of fentanyl. The Canadian government has recently funded safer opioid supply (SOS) programs, which include off-label prescriptions of pharmaceutical-grade opioids to high risk individuals with the goal of reducing overdose deaths.

Introduction: The heterozygous condition for β-thalassemia mutation associated with an extra functional α-globin gene can produce a Thalassemia Intermedia (TI) phenotype. This genotype is the second in frequency in the French Thalassemia Registry NaThalY that prospectively collects laboratory and clinical data.
