Key Clinical Message: Caseous mitral annulus calcification is a rare benign condition that can be misdiagnosed on echocardiography especially when it presents as a mass. This report highlights the contribution of cardiac MRI and computed tomography to the diagnosis through the case of a patient previously treated for breast cancer.
Abstract: We report the case of a patient, previously treated for breast cancer, in whom echocardiography suggested the diagnosis of a cardiac tumor due the presence of a mass on the posterior mitral annulus.
Background: Skin diseases are usually chronic in nature but not life-threatening. They affect the well-being and pose a threat to the general health of the affected animals.
Aim: This study aimed to investigate epidemiological, clinical, and therapeutic aspects of ectoparasitic infestations in dogs in a number of Egyptian governorates.
Premature ventricular contractions (PVCs) are common. Although often benign, they can also be associated with increased morbidity and mortality. The aim of this review was to assess the risk evaluation of PVCs in patients with or without structural heart disease and discuss the management of this arrhythmia.

Aim: To study the lipid profile after ACS and to assess the degree of applicability of the European guidelines in Tunisia.
Background: Orthopedic diseases involving the forelimb fetlock joint of horses other than those used in professional racing have not been widely reported in the literature. One of these problems is the exostosis on the proximal forelimb phalanx (P1), which has not been reported previously in Western Libya.
Aim: The study aimed to investigate the prevalence of P1 exostosis in traditional equestrian horses (known locally as Sarj horses) of different breeds in Libya that participated in a special social event and described its clinical findings radiographic appearance.
Background: During development, oligodendrocyte (OL) lineage cells are susceptible to injury, leading to life-long clinical neurodevelopmental deficits, which lack effective treatments. Drugs targeting epigenetic modifications that inhibit histone deacetylases (HDACs) protect from many clinical neurodegenerative disorders.
Aim: This study aimed to investigate the therapeutic potential of histone deacetylase 2/3 (HDAC2/3) inhibitor MI192 on white matter (WM) pathology in a model of neonatal rat brain injury.
Background: Patellar luxation (PL) is a common orthopedic affection among farm and pet animals with mostly congenital (environmental and/or genetic) background.
Aim: We report here the first observation of lateral PL in Hejazi goats bred in Libya.
Methods: Five Hejazi goats aged between 4 months and 2 years with severe hind limb lameness were admitted to Al-Sorouh veterinary clinic in Tripoli during the period from 2016 to 2018.
Aortic stenosis (AS) is one of the most common valvular diseases in clinical practice. The prevalence of calcified AS with moderate or severe stenosis exceeds 2% after 75 years. The optimal timing of intervention for asymptomatic severe AS is uncertain and controversial.

Accurate selection of patients with ischemic heart disease and idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy, who are at risk of sudden cardiac death (SCD), remains a challenge. In these cases, current indications for implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICD) rely almost entirely on left ventricular ejection fraction.

Aim: This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of different etiological agents, particularly the parasitic and bacterial, responsible for the cases of feline otitis externa in Tripoli, Libya, and to assess the antimicrobial susceptibility of the bacterial isolates from those cases.
Methods: Cerumen and otic discharges of the suspected cats were collected for parasite detection and bacterial culture.
Left ventricular aneurysms (LVA) are mainly a late consequence of transmural myocardial infarction. Approximately 80% of LVA are located in the anterior and/or apical walls, most commonly associated with left anterior descending artery occlusion but any region may be engaged. Basal inferior wall aneurysms are rare and constitute nearly 3% of all LVA.

Case Description: A case of nasal OSA in a local Libyan cat was admitted to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Tripoli-Libya, with nasal swelling and discharges and facial deformity. The radiological findings revealed nasal osteolysis with the absence of evidence of lung metastasis.
Bundle branch reentrant ventricular tachycardia (VT) is a form of macroreentrant tachycardia. Although infrequent in occurrence, this arrhythmia presents with serious clinical manifestations and has potential for cure by catheter ablation. We report a case of bundle branch reentrant VT with ischemic source.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFSudden cardiac death (SCD) is the most devastating complication of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). The greatest challenge in the management of HCM is identifying those at increased risk, since an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) is a potentially life-saving therapy. We sought to summarize the available data on SCD in HCM and provide a clinical perspective on the current differing and somewhat conflicting data on risk stratification, with balanced guidance regarding rational clinical decision-making.

Past studies have clearly shown the value of characterizing problem organisms including MRSA through the use of molecular techniques (i.e.

Trichloroethane (TCE), a ubiquitous environmental toxicant, is used in large quantities as a dissolvent, metal degreaser, chemical intermediate, and component of consumer products. This increases the likelihood of human exposure to these compounds through dermal, inhalation and oral routes.

The age of the ewes enrolled in the current study ranged from 2 to 3 years. The cases were admitted to private veterinary clinics in south-western region of Tripoli, Libya, during the period between July 2014 and October 2015.

In certain clinical situations ,multi-detector computed tomography coronarography (MDCT) is currently considered as a promising technique alternative to conventional coronary angiography (CCA).
Purpose: We suggest from our personal study and from a review of the literature, to analyze diagnostic accuracy of MDCT , its limits and to deduct, its practical implications and its indications.
Brucellosis is a global bacterial zoonosis responsible for high morbidity in humans and significant livestock economic losses. While brucellosis remains a public health concern worldwide, its global geographic distribution is variable, largely due to different management schemes; however, paucity of information renders the status of brucellosis unclear and incomplete in many countries, especially those with low income and under-developed infrastructure. This short article summarizes and discusses recent important updates on brucellosis from the North African countries, with a particular brief emphasis on the current status and recent updates in Libya.

The diagnosis of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is usually established by echocardiography. Recently, there has been greatly increased use of cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) because of its precise determination of myocardial anatomy and the depiction of myocardial fibrosis. In this review, we describe the role of echocardiography and magnetic resonance in the assessment of this complex disease.

Aim: This study aimed to define the prevalence of inter, intra and atrio-ventricular dyssynchrony in heart failure patients with different QRS duration and to evaluate inter and intra-observer variability in collecting different echocardiographic dyssynchony parameters.
Methods: Twenty patients with chronic heart failure of any origin, NYHA functional class II-III with LVEF < 40%, were evaluated by complete echocardiographic examination including tissue Doppler imaging (DTI) and Tissue Tracking.
