Background: Evidence suggests that by recognising the psychosocial component of illness as equally important to the biological components, care becomes more holistic, and patients can benefit. Providing this type of care requires collaboration among health professionals, rather than working in isolation, to achieve better outcomes. However, there is a lack of evidence about the implementation of integrated health care.

Black dementia caregivers report experiencing challenges in providing care that may be exacerbated by them receiving fewer support services and having more unmet needs compared to their racial counterparts. Furthermore, historical systemic failures and disadvantages impacting Black dementia caregivers contribute to long-established stressors and vulnerabilities.

Here, we used virtual reality (VR), which enables standardization and reproducibility while maintaining perception-action coupling, to assess the influence of a gaze-contingent blur on the visual processes that underpin these boxing behaviours. Eleven elite French boxers were placed in an immersive and adaptive first-person VR environment where they had to avoid by dodging one or two punches, and then counterattack to strike their opponent.

While these approaches are prone to false positive identifications through contamination and antibody nonspecific binding, their results can be filtered using negative controls and computational modeling. However, such filtering does not effectively detect false-positive interactions when IP-MS/MS is performed on human plasma samples.

Here, we show that double homeobox 4 (DUX4), an early embryonic transcription factor and causative gene of facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD), induces the accumulation of stable intranuclear RNAs, including nucleolar-associated RNA and human satellite II (HSATII) repeat RNA. Stable intranuclear RNAs drive protein aggregation in DUX4-expressing muscle cells.

While cerebral hypoperfusion occurs in established AD, middle-aged carriers of genetic risk factors for AD, including APOE ε4, display regional hyperperfusion due to hypothesised pleiotropic or compensatory effects, representing a possible early biomarker of AD and facilitating earlier AD diagnosis. However, it is not clear whether hyperperfusion already exists even earlier in life.

Methods: Two discrete choice experiments (DCEs) were conducted, using electronic surveys. Participants were adult parents of children and young people.
Objective: To conduct a proof-of-concept pilot study of a CBT guided self-help intervention for children and young people with eating disorders.
Method: Children and young people were recruited from two outpatient eating disorder services in England. They received a CBT guided self-help intervention consisting of eight modules and weekly support sessions.
Background: Indications for primary total knee arthroplasty (TKA) have become more inclusive of morbidly obese patients, however, higher rates of complications and lower implant survival have also been reported in this population. The purpose of this study was to investigate the mid-term survival, clinical, and radiographic outcomes of a cementless trabecular metal monoblock tibial component in severely obese patients.
Methods: This was a retrospective study of class II and III obese (BMI > 35) patients who received a cementless primary TKA.
Loneliness is an adaptive experience evolved to create motivation to engage in social relationships. However, for some young people, loneliness can become chronic which can have serious negative health consequences. Despite this, there is a relative lack of evidence for interventions.

In this study, we examined the microbiomes of HIV-positive and HIV-negative individuals, both drug-injecting and non-injecting, to identify bacterial community changes in response to HIV and drug use. We utilized a well-established cohort of people who inject drugs in Puerto Rico, a region with historically high levels of injection drug use and an HIV incidence rate disproportionately associated with drug use.

Objective: To describe local authority variation in the delivery of health visiting to children under five years in England (2018-2020).
Objective: Children with epilepsy may have significant mental health needs with detrimental impact on quality of life, and families often request support and intervention. This paper explores the change experienced by parents of young people with epilepsy and mental health difficulties receiving an integrated mental health intervention.
Methods: A qualitative study was conducted within a randomised controlled trial evaluating the Mental Health Intervention for Children with Epilepsy (MICE) psychological therapy in addition to usual care.
Background: Chronic social defeat stress is a widely used depression model in male mice. Several proposed adaptations extend this model to females with variable, often marginal effects. We examine if the widely used male-defined metrics of stress are suboptimal in females witnessing defeat.

Using a discrete choice experiment, advised through an expert and consumer co-design approach, we consider the total number of sessions, the delivery mode, the primary outcome and focus of the program as well as its costs as attributes. Results from a representative sample of the Australian adult population show a high willingness to pay for the program overall, even greater than the actual costs.

However, there is a lack of a standardised training and certification framework for clinical scientists and specialist physiologists (CSSPs) working within specialist valve clinics (SVCs). This study aimed to design, implement and validate a competency framework dedicated to training and certifying valve CSSPs to enhance patient outcomes and establish standardised care.

Purpose: Embolisation is a widely utilised therapeutic intervention for pulmonary arteriovenous malformation (PAVM). We conducted a meta-analysis to evaluate outcomes of PAVM embolisation and factors associated with embolisation outcomes.
Methods: MEDLINE, EMBASE and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL) were searched from 2000 to July 2022 on studies that assessed embolisation outcomes of PAVM.
Objectives: Research has shown that children with epilepsy often experience mental health disorders but face barriers to effective care. One solution is to train healthcare professionals within paediatric epilepsy services to deliver psychological interventions. The aim of this paper was to examine aspects of treatment integrity of the 'Mental Health Interventions for Children with Epilepsy' (MICE) treatment, a modular cognitive behavioural therapy intervention for anxiety, depression and behavioural difficulties in childhood epilepsy.

Here, we demonstrate a single pixel imaging capability with pattern frame-rates approaching 400 kfps with a recently developed microLED light projector and an otherwise simple optical setup. The microLED array has individually addressable pixels and can operate significantly faster than digital micromirror devices, allowing flexibility with regards to the pattern masks employed for imaging even at the fastest frame-rates.

Despite increasing awareness, training and use of low-intensity psychological interventions, it is not yet understood what is being implemented in clinical practice in the UK and the associated evidence base.
Method: This paper presents two studies; first, a national survey (=102) of practitioners to identify low-intensity psychological interventions currently delivered in practice and second, an exploration of the availability and the strength of empirical support (characterised as 'gold', 'silver' and 'bronze') of low-intensity CBT interventions for CYP.
Music-evoked autobiographical memories (MEAMs) are typically elicited by music that listeners have heard before. While studies that have directly manipulated music familiarity show that familiar music evokes more MEAMs than music listeners have not heard before, music that is unfamiliar to the listener can also sporadically cue autobiographical memory. Here we examined whether music that sounds familiar even without previous exposure can produce spontaneous MEAMs.
