Background: Several actions have been taken to improve the sick listing process, patient safety and return to work. One of them is the implementation of the rehabilitation coordinator function, of which the benefits have not yet been fully explored. Neither has the role of the manager, who has significant impact on the implementation and support of a new function.

Background: In the United States, buffalofish ( spp.) are sporadically associated with sudden onset muscle pain and weakness due to rhabdomyolysis within 24 h of fish consumption (Haff disease). Previous genetic analyses of case-associated samples were unable to distinguish the three species of buffalofish that occur in the US, (bigmouth buffalo), (smallmouth buffalo), and (black buffalo).

Farm size affects the use of agroecological practices on organic farms in the United States.

Organic agriculture outperforms conventional agriculture across several sustainability metrics due, in part, to more widespread use of agroecological practices. However, increased entry of large-scale farms into the organic sector has prompted concerns about 'conventionalization' through input substitution, agroecosystem simplification and other changes. Characterization of a novel enzyme from Photobacterium phosphoreum with histidine decarboxylase activity.

Histamine or scombrotoxin fish poisoning is caused by ingestion of bacterially produced histamine in fish. Histamine-producing bacteria generally contain the histidine decarboxylase gene (hdc). However, some strains of Photobacterium phosphoreum are known to produce significant levels of histamine, although the hdc gene in these strains has not been recognized.

Knee Osteoarthritis: Alternative Range of Motion Treatment.

The number of total knee arthroplasty (TKA) surgeries is expected to soar, and an effective nonoperative rehabilitation program is needed. We began treating patients with knee osteoarthritis with a range-of-motion (ROM) -based rehabilitation program that was delivered systematically, starting with ROM exercises for knee extension, followed by exercises for flexion and swelling reduction, before starting a strengthening program. In a group of 396 patients, significant improvements were made in knee extension, flexion, and KOOS subjective scores for pain, symptoms, activities of daily living, sport, and quality of life.

A Novel Skin Closure Device for Total Knee Arthroplasty: Randomized Controlled Trial versus Staples.

Twenty-five patients undergoing simultaneous, bilateral total knee arthroplasty (TKA) were randomized to receive skin closure with Zip device on one knee and staples on the other. Patients' pain and scar appearance were rated from 0 (best) to 10 (worst). Knee arc of motion was measured by a physical therapist.

Bias in Obstetrician-Gynecologists' Workplaces.

Obstetrician-gynecologists (ob-gyns) face similar types of biases in the workplace as any people in society. In this first of three articles exploring this issue, we present the stories from ob-gyns who describe their experiences dealing with these biases. These stories serve to personalize the issue and to encourage us to personally face bias in the workplace to build our own resilience and strength, to support those who are personally attacked or diminished, and to develop workplace cultures that are inclusive, diverse, and strong.

Gemtuzumab ozogamicin for acute myeloid leukemia: final efficacy and safety updates from the open-label, phase III ALFA-0701 trial.

The randomized, phase III ALFA-0701 trial showed that a reduced and fractionated dose of gemtuzumab ozogamicin added to standard front-line chemotherapy significantly improves event-free survival (EFS) in adults with acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Here we report an independent review of EFS, final overall survival (OS), and additional safety results from ALFA-0701. Patients (n=271) aged 50-70 years with AML were randomized to receive conventional front-line induction chemotherapy (3+7daunorubicin+cytarabine) with/without gemtuzumab ozogamicin 3 mg/m on days 1, 4, and 7 during induction.

Use of the STROBE Checklist to Evaluate the Reporting Quality of Observational Research in Obstetrics.

Objective: To evaluate observational research manuscripts submitted to Obstetrics & Gynecology to determine the level of adherence to the Strengthening the Reporting of Observational Studies in Epidemiology (STROBE) checklist and highlight specific areas that could be improved.

Methods: A scoring system based on the STROBE checklist was developed and validated for consistency by volunteer medical students or doctors. Using this scoring system, we performed a cross-sectional analysis on 198 observational research manuscripts submitted to Obstetrics & Gynecology from 2008 to 2016.

Biogenic Amine Production by and Phylogenetic Analysis of 23 Photobacterium Species.

Photobacterium species are members of the bacterial communities typically associated with scombrotoxin-forming fish. Reclassification and discovery of new Photobacterium species has caused confusion as to which species are capable of biogenic amine production. We analyzed histamine, cadaverine, and putrescine production by 104 Photobacterium strains representing 23 species.

Analysis of Chloramphenicol and Two Metabolites in Crab and Shrimp Following Waterborne Exposure.

The use of chloramphenicol (CAP) in aquaculture products is banned in many countries, including the United States, due to human health issues. Very few depletion and metabolism studies of CAP in seafood have been performed. Current detection methods for CAP residues in food are directed toward the parent drug molecule, but rapid elimination following treatment suggests the need for an alternative marker residue.

A large quantity of reduced carbon is sequestered in the ocean as refractory dissolved molecules that persist through several circuits of global overturning circulation. Key aspects of the cycling of refractory dissolved organic carbon (DOC) remain unknown, making it challenging to predict how this large carbon reservoir will respond to climate change. Herein we investigate mechanisms that remove refractory DOC using bioassay experiments with DOC isolated from surface, mesopelagic and deep waters of the Atlantic Ocean.

Precooking of tuna is a potential critical control point (CCP) in the commercial manufacturing of canned tuna. To assess the efficacy of precooking as a CCP, an understanding of the thermal properties of histamine-producing bacteria (HPB) and their histidine decarboxylase (HDC) enzymes is required. The thermal properties of many HPB have been determined, but the thermal resistances of the HDC enzymes are unknown.

Continuous Infusion Ketorolac for Postoperative Analgesia Following Unilateral Total Knee Arthroplasty.

Background: Previous clinical trials have demonstrated benefit with the addition of continuous infusion (CI) ketorolac to a multimodal pain regimen in surgical patients. Data following major orthopedic surgery are minimal and conflicting.
