Inferior vena cava IVC is a crucial route for catheter access (both directly to the right heart and indirectly through a transeptal puncture to the left heart, used in most electrophysiological procedures). However, interrupted IVC is a real challenge to traditional arrythmia ablation approaches, compromising in certain cases the success of the procedure. A well-developed azygos continuation offers an alternative pathway, bypassing the interrupted segment of the IVC.

Purpose: While restricted kinematic alignment (rKA) total knee arthroplasty (TKA) with cemented implants has been shown to provide a similar survivorship rate to mechanical alignment (MA) in the short term, no studies have reported on the long-term survivorship and function.

Methods: One hundred four consecutive cemented cruciate retaining TKAs implanted using computer navigation and following the rKA principles proposed by Vendittoli were reviewed at a minimum of 10 years after surgery. Implant revisions, reoperations and clinical outcomes were assessed using knee injury and osteoarthritis outcome score (KOOS), forgotten joint score (FJS), patients' satisfaction and joint perception questionnaires.

Background: This study assesses the effectiveness of 5 main conversional or revisional metabolic bariatric surgery sequences after sleeve gastrectomy, adjustable gastric banding and gastric bypass on reimbursement and cost of continuous positive airway pressure therapy, the first line treatment for obstructive sleep apnea, in France.

Methods: This nationwide observational population-based cohort study analyzed data from the French National Health Insurance database. It included all patients who had undergone primary metabolic bariatric surgery in France between January 1, 2012, and December 31, 2014, and followed until December 31, 2020.

Cleidocranial dysplasia (CCD) is a rare genetic disorder characterized by skeletal abnormalities, including hypoplastic or absent clavicles, delayed closure of cranial sutures, and dental anomalies. We present a case of a 72-year-old female with a history of breast cancer treated with mastectomy and radio chemotherapy with the port-a catheter still in place in the left subclavian region. She presented to the emergency room with syncope related to a complete atrioventricular (AV) block.

Background: In Morocco, much progress has been made in breast cancer treatment. However, there is limited information on survival outcomes of breast cancer patients according to their therapeutic management.

Methods: A pattern-of-care study was conducted in Morocco's two main oncology centres: Rabat and Casablanca and has shown that major progress has been made in the quality of care with survival rates comparable to those in developed countries.

Facial lacerations are commonly encountered in emergency departments and require effective management to optimise aesthetic outcomes. Non-resorbable sutures are traditionally favoured for their tensile strength and minimal inflammatory response, despite the inconvenience of the required follow up for removal. This single-centre, single-blinded randomised controlled trial aimed to compare the clinical efficacy and cost-effectiveness of resorbable (Vicryl Rapide) versus non-resorbable (Ethilon) sutures for the closure of facial lacerations in adults.

Objective: This study compared the effectiveness of 4 main revisional bariatric surgery (RBS) sequences after sleeve gastrectomy (SG) and adjustable gastric banding (AGB), on the reimbursement of antidiabetic treatments in France.

Background: Few large-scale prospective cohort studies have assessed the changes in antidiabetic treatments after RBS.

Method: This nationwide observational population-based cohort study analyzed data from the French National Health Insurance Database.

Morgagni-Larrey hernia is a rare pathology resulting from an anterior diaphragmatic defect. Diagnosis is often made in adulthood due to the lack of symptoms associated with this condition. Various surgical techniques have been reported for its treatment, but no standard approach has been established due to its rarity.

Background And Objective: In recent years, the mission of pharmacists has evolved and the model of the caregiver-patient relationship has been challenged by a new patient-centered approach. A challenge to providing personalized care is the assessment of patient preferences. We aimed to systematically identify published discrete choice experiments related to patient preferences for pharmacy services and to assess the quality of the selected articles.

The present study aims to investigate the presence of Aflatoxins (AF) in 180 samples dried fruits and Ochratoxin A (OTA) in 210 samples dried fruits and grape juices collected in Morocco. Mycotoxins were analyzed by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) coupled to fluorescence detection and immunoaffinity columns (IAC) cleanup. Contamination levels were compared with the maximum regulatory limits (MRL) recently adopted in the country, and mycotoxin exposure of adult consumers was assessed.

Article Synopsis
  • This study in Morocco analyzed the cancer patient journey to identify delays in diagnosis and treatment, highlighting how most patients are diagnosed at advanced stages.
  • It involved interviewing 812 recently diagnosed cancer patients across major oncology centers to assess timeframes for various stages of their care.
  • Key findings indicated that while the patient interval and treatment times met international guidelines, the diagnosis interval was significantly longer than recommended, which emphasizes the need for improved pathways for cancer care in the region.*

Since 2010, the postgraduate training diploma in laboratory medicine has experienced a strong decline in its attractiveness to French medical students. This work aims to objectify and quantify this decline between 2004 and 2021. To do so, we have carried out an analyze of the trend to choose laboratory medicine after the national ranking review performed by all French students.

Background: Complementary therapy in oncology aims to help patients better cope with the illness and side effects (SEs) of cancer treatments that affect their quality of life (QOL). This study aimed to assess the benefits of homeopathic treatment on the health-related QOL (HRQOL) of patients with non-metastatic breast cancer (BC) prescribed in postsurgical complementary therapy.

Patients And Methods: An extraction from the French nationwide healthcare database targeted all patients who underwent mastectomy for newly diagnosed BC between 2012 and 2013.

The Casa-Settat region is experiencing very worrying environmental and epidemiological problems and challenges, namely, population growth, the significant development of unsupervised industrial activities, road traffic, the significant weight of the spread of diseases with high epidemiological potential such as SARS-CoV-2, the increase in hospital activities, and the significant discharge of hospital effluents highly contaminated and untreated. To understand and analyze the factors influencing the high prevalence of deaths and the occurrence of diseases under surveillance, among others SARS-CoV-2, on the quantitative data recorded relating to ten regions of Morocco, and informing, on the one hand, on intrinsic data linked to the urban development, and on the other hand, on the evolution of diseases under epidemiological surveillance, a multidimensional analysis was made. The results reveal the typological framework highlighted by the factorial map 1 × 2 which showed the individualization of the region of Casablanca explained by a large number of variables and diseases that affect it.

Article Synopsis
  • A study was conducted at two major oncology centers in Morocco to assess delays and adherence to treatment guidelines for cervical cancer from 2008 to 2017, involving 886 patients.
  • Findings indicated significant delays in accessing care (5 months) and treatment (2.3 months), with many patients not receiving optimal treatments like brachytherapy.
  • The overall 5-year disease-free survival was 57.5%, highlighting the need for reduced delays and increased use of chemoradiation and brachytherapy to enhance survival outcomes.

Removal of polyphenols from crude olive mill wastewaters (COMWW) is vital to the development of olive industries. In addition, the exploitation of the residue of the olive oil industry such as crude olive stone (COS) constitutes a valorization of this substance and makes a contribution to the fight against environmental pollution. For this purpose, this study concerns the utilization of COS as an adsorbent of polyphenols from COMWW.
