An Oropharyngeal Accessory Tragus in a Young Patient With Conductive Hearing Loss.

In this report, we describe the first reported case of an oropharyngeal accessory tragus in a 20-year-old female presenting with moderate to severe left-sided conductive hearing loss. This case shares rare developmental anomalies to consider when diagnosing oropharyngeal masses that highlight the intricate embryological development of the head and neck region.

Depictions of Strabismus in Children's Animated Films.

Background: Strabismus is known to negatively affect patients' self-confidence and ability to interact with society. Strabismus is commonly depicted in animated films marketed to children, potentially influencing the perception of strabismus by young impressionable audiences.

Methods: We reviewed all animated films released by Walt Disney Animation Studios from 1989 to 2022 and all films released by Pixar, DreamWorks, and Studio Ghibli before 2023 and identified all characters with strabismus.

Detection of mild sensory hearing loss using a joint reflection-distortion otoacoustic emission profile.

Measuring and analyzing both nonlinear-distortion and linear-reflection otoacoustic emissions (OAEs) combined creates what we have termed a "joint-OAE profile." Here, we test whether these two classes of emissions have different sensitivities to hearing loss and whether our joint-OAE profile can detect mild-moderate hearing loss better than conventional OAE protocols have. 2f1-f2 distortion-product OAEs and stimulus-frequency OAEs were evoked with rapidly sweeping tones in 300 normal and impaired ears.

The Health Resources and Services Administration's (HRSA) Health Center Program provides health care to vulnerable persons across the US, regardless of their ability to pay for health care. We examined characteristics of populations living within and outside a 30-minute drive-time to HRSA-supported health centers to establish a baseline to better understand the differences in these populations. Using a descriptive, cross-sectional study design and geographic information systems, we found that 94% of persons in the US live within a 30-minute drive-time of a health center.

Multicenter registry and test bed for extended outpatient hemodynamic monitoring: the hemodynamic frontiers in heart failure (HF) initiative.

Background: Hemodynamic Frontiers in Heart Failure (HF) is a multicenter academic research consortium comprised of 14 US institutions with mature remote monitoring programs for ambulatory patients with heart failure (HF). The consortium developed a retrospective and prospective registry of patients implanted with a wireless pulmonary artery pressure (PAP) sensor.

Anterior Inferior Cerebellar Artery Aneurysm Mimicking a Vestibular Schwannoma.

Anterior inferior cerebellar artery (AICA) aneurysms are rare pathologies that may present with hearing loss, facial paralysis, vertigo, and tinnitus. Otologic symptoms at the time of presentation may prompt physicians to order an MRI, which can lead to the misdiagnosis of AICA aneurysms as vestibular schwannomas. Gender-Affirming Facial Surgery: Experiences and Outcomes at an Academic Center.

Gender-affirming facial surgery (GFS) is becoming more widely available for transgender individuals, but data on surgical approaches and outcomes remain limited. Retrospective analysis of surgical outcomes among consecutive GFS cases performed at a tertiary care academic center between March 2016 and August 2020. Seventy-seven patients underwent 109 surgeries, including 478 individual procedures.
