Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to compare the clinical effectiveness of two types of hemodialysis catheters, the Arrow-Clark VectorFlow and the Palindrome, in patients with end-stage renal disease.
  • The primary measure of success was the unassisted catheter patency over 90 days, with secondary assessments including dialysis efficiency (Kt/V) and urea reduction ratio (URR).
  • Results showed no significant difference in patency rates between the two catheters, but the VectorFlow catheter demonstrated consistently better dialysis adequacy compared to the Palindrome catheter.

Background: Recessive dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa (RDEB) is an inherited blistering skin disorder that is associated with significant esophageal strictures, resulting in dysphagia and nutritional failure. Although endoscopically guided balloon dilatation is a widely used treatment, the use of an endoscope carries the risk of oropharyngeal trauma. To minimize this risk, we have eliminated its use.
