Assessing Impact of Show-Me ECHO on the Health of Missourians: Two Examples.

Show Me ECHO is a model for interprofessional collaboration that utilizes telehealth technologies to share evidence-based medical knowledge to improve patient outcomes and minimize variation in care for underserved populations. To measure ECHO outcomes, Show Me ECHO develops both an evaluation of clinical outcomes for patients as well as assessing learner outcomes on the Kirkpatrick Typology of Evaluation. This paper describes evaluation models for Dermatology and Childhood Asthma ECHOs.

Teaming Up for Asthma Control: EPR-3 Compliant School Program in Missouri Is Effective and Cost-Efficient.

Introduction: Teaming Up for Asthma Control (TUAC) is a work force development intervention to improve asthma control among children by increasing the competency of school nurses and delivering guideline-based education. We hypothesized that the knowledge and skills of participating school nurses would improve and that this change would positively affect students' asthma health and reduce health care utilization cost.

Methods: Asthma education for school nurses was provided online in a pretest/posttest format or in instructor-led groups.

Sensitivity of different spirometric tests for detecting airway obstruction in childhood asthma.

Objective: The objective of this study was to compare different measures of airflow obstruction by spirometry in childhood asthma. The objectives were; (a) to compare sensitivity of large airway tests (FEV1 and PEFR) with tests at low lung volumes (small airways) (FEF25-75, FEF50 and FEF75); (b) compare within each group which individual tests are more sensitive.

Methods: This was a retrospective analysis of 2307 spirometry tests performed during outpatient visits on 821 doctor-diagnosed asthma patients aged 6-18.

Internet-enabled interactive multimedia asthma education program: a randomized trial.

Objective: To determine whether health outcomes of children who have asthma can be improved through the use of an Internet-enabled interactive multimedia asthma education program.

Methods: Two hundred twenty-eight children with asthma visiting a pediatric pulmonary clinic were randomly assigned to control and intervention groups. Children and caregivers in both groups received traditional patient education based on the National Asthma Education and Prevention Program.
