Functional Outcomes After Fracture-Dislocation of the Ankle.

Fracture dislocation of the ankle represents a substantial injury to the bony and soft tissue structures of the ankle. There has been only limited reporting of functional outcome of ankle fracture-dislocations. This study aimed to compare functional outcome after open reduction internal fixation in ankle fractures with and without dislocation.

Timing of Open Reduction and Internal Fixation of Ankle Fractures.

Unstable ankle fractures are treated with open reduction internal fixation (ORIF) to prevent posttraumatic arthritis. Typically, ORIF is performed as an ambulatory surgery several days to a few weeks after injury. It is unclear what effect this delay may have on functional outcome.
