Introduction And Objective: Cryopreservation of testicular tissues offers new possibilities to protect endangered species, genetically valuable individuals or even the fertility potential of prepubertal individuals who have died unexpectedly. However, the use of this technique still remains a challenge. In this study, slow freezing and vitrification of testicular tissue was investigated to find out which cryopreservation method could better preserve the viability and DNA integrity of testicular germ cells in diverse wild species.

Long-term effects of continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion in adults with type 1 diabetes mellitus patients: Results of a public healthcare system.

Aim: To evaluate the long-term clinical effect of continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion (CSII) in adult type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) patients in a regional public healthcare system real-world scenario.

Methods: All adult T1DM patients on CSII for ≥10 years subjected to follow-up in the regional Castilla-La Mancha Public Health Service were included. The primary efficacy outcome was the variation in HbA during follow-up.

Bovine enzootic haematuria (BEH) is caused by prolonged ingestion of toxic principles of bracken fern, essentially by Pteridium spp. In northwestern Argentina, this disease has a great economic impact ant it is attributed a chronic consumption to Pteridium arachnoideum. This paper describes two endemic areas for enzootic hematuria due to the consumption of Pteris deflexa and Pteris plumula.

Background And Purpose: Percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) is the treatment of choice for large and complex kidney stones, having increased its safety and effectiveness over the last years. Nonetheless, there is little known about its impact on quality of life (QoL). This study aimed at evaluating the effects of PCNL on patients' QoL in the short and long term.

Objective: To assess glycemic control, the degree of control of cardiovascular risk factors, and treatment schemes used in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) in Castilla-La Mancha (Spain).

Patients And Methods: A cross-sectional, multicenter study on adult patients with T1DM seen at outpatient endocrinology clinics for 12 months (from September 2009 to August 2010). Diabetes duration was > 5 years in all cases.

[Impact of zidovudine treatment and the pneumocystis carinii prophylaxis in natural history of patients with HIV infection].

Introduction: Early use of prophylactic regimens against Pneumocystis carinii and zidovudine therapy, may have modified the natural history of patients with HIV-1 infection. We describe the incidence of opportunistic infections and analize the mortality rate in those patients to check the occurrence of any change in the above mentioned natural history.

Patients: Clinical charts of patients with HIV-1 infection attending our hospital are reviewed, from november 1987 to june 1994.
