Adipose tissue (AT) expands through both hyperplasia and hypertrophy. During adipogenesis, adipose stromal and progenitor cells (ASPC) proliferate and then accumulate lipids, influenced by the local AT microenvironment. Deletions on the long arm of chromosome 9 (del(9q)) are recurrent abnormalities in about 2 % of acute myeloid leukemia cases, which usually involve HNRNPK and are frequently associated with other known aberrations. Based on an Hnrnpk haploinsufficient mouse model, a recent study demonstrated a function of hnRNP K in pathogenesis of myeloid malignancies via the regulation of cellular proliferation and myeloid differentiation programs. Here, we provide evidence that reduced hnRNP K expression results in the dysregulated expression of C/EBPα and additional transcription factors.

Bovine leukemia virus (BLV) is a retrovirus of cattle that infects approximately 45% of all US dairy cattle, with about 90% of US dairy herds having at least one infected animal. Studies have found BLV infection to be associated with multiple measures of decreased immune function, which may explain the observed economic losses from milk production, decreased cow longevity, and predisposition to lymphoma and other diseases. Our objective was to measure the association between BLV infection and cow longevity in dairy cow operations.

Current guidelines recommend prophylactic treatment of hemophilia B with the missing coagulation factor IX, either with standard half-life or extended half-life products. Extended half-life products have half-lives three to six times longer than the former, allowing a reduction in the number of weekly injections and therefore, potentially impacting on treatment adherence and quality of life. Albutrepenonacog alfa is an extended half-life fusion protein of coagulation factor IX with recombinant human albumin, indicated for both on-demand and prophylactic treatment for bleeding in patients with hemophilia B of all ages.

The objective of this field trial was to reduce bovine leukemia virus (BLV) transmission and prevalence in commercial dairy herds using proviral load (PVL) and lymphocyte count (LC) measurements as indicators of the most infectious animals for culling or segregation. Bovine leukemia virus causes lymphoma in <5% of infected cattle, and increased lymphocyte counts (lymphocytosis) in about one-third. Recent research has shown that dairy cows infected with BLV have altered immune function associated with decreases in milk production and lifespan.
