Light adaptation in photoreceptors is doubly dynamical: it depends upon the temporal structure of the input and it affects the temporal structure of the response. Intraoperative aortic dissection is a rare but potentially fatal complication of cardiac surgery. In this report, we present a case of intraoperative aortic dissection that was complicated by intestinal ischaemia. The aorta was successfully repaired using both open and endovascular techniques.
