-hydroxycinnamic acid (pHCA) is one of the most abundant naturally occurring hydroxycinnamic acids, a class of chemistries known for their antioxidant properties. In this study, we evaluated the impact of pHCA on different parameters of skin aging in in vitro skin models after HO and UV exposure. These parameters include keratinocyte senescence and differentiation, inflammation, and energy metabolism, as well as the underlying molecular mechanisms.

Significance: There is little literature linking mobility aids for people with sight loss to the functions, activities, and participation domains of the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF). Future studies on this relationship should be funded and pursued to better understand ways to maximize the benefit of mobility aids.

In our initial analysis of the Australian Vegan Study we estimated the mean daily intake of vitamin B12 of each participant and compared this to the Recommended Dietary Intake (RDI). However, the proportion of vitamin B12 that can be absorbed from large doses typically contained in oral supplements is considerably lower than the amount absorbed from food. In this analysis we took into account the estimated absorption from supplements in order to compare adequacy of vitamin B12 intake to the RDI.

AGR2 is a tissue-restricted member of the protein disulfide isomerase family that has attracted interest because it is highly expressed in a number of cancers, including gastroesophageal adenocarcinoma. The behavior of AGR2 was analyzed under oxidizing conditions, and an alkylation trapping and immunoprecipitation approach were developed to identify novel AGR2 interacting proteins. The data show that AGR2 is induced in esophageal adenocarcinoma, where it participates in redox-responsive, disulfide-dependent complexes.

Coordinated changes in signaling pathways and gene expression in hearts subjected to prolonged stress maintain cardiac function. Loss of steroid receptor coactivator-2 (SRC-2) results in a reversal to the fetal gene program and disrupts the response to pressure overload, accompanied by prominent effects on metabolism and growth signaling, including increased AMPK activation. We proposed that early metabolic stress driven by AMPK activation induces contractile dysfunction in mice lacking SRC-2.

The establishment of cell lineages occurs via a dynamic progression of gene regulatory networks (GRNs) that underlie developmental commitment and differentiation. To investigate how microRNAs (miRs) function in this process, we compared miRs and miR targets at the initiation of the two major ectodermal lineages in Xenopus. Mesp1 directs multipotential cardiovascular cell fates, even though it's transiently induced prior to the appearance of the cardiac progenitor program. Tracing Mesp1-expressing cells and their progeny allows isolation and characterization of the earliest cardiovascular progenitor cells. Studying the biology of Mesp1-CPCs in cell culture and ischemic disease models is an important initial step toward using them for heart disease treatment.
