A Retrospective Study of Foot Biomechanics and Injury History in Varsity Football Athletes at the U.S. Naval Academy.

Introduction: The six-item Foot Posture Index (FPI-6) was previously developed as an assessment tool to measure the posture of the foot across multiple segments and planes. It was derived from a criterion-based observational assessment of six components of each foot during static standing. The association between abnormal foot posture and musculoskeletal injuries remains unclear and is in of need further exploration.

Can we assess risk of psychiatric sequelae from perinatal injuries?

Medical malpractice litigation involving seven to nine figure settlements has been on the rise over the past decade. Given the life-altering scope of these incidents, forensic child psychiatrists may be asked to opine on the effects of a permanent perinatal injury on normal human development. Whether forensic child psychiatrists can assess risk of future psychiatric effects from such incidents is an important question.

Predictors of Mortality in Patients with ST-Segment Elevation Acute Myocardial Infarction and Resuscitated Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest.

Introduction: In patients with out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) complicating an ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), the survival depends largely on the restoration of coronary flow in the infarct related artery. The aim of this study was to determine clinical and angiographic predictors of in-hospital mortality in patients with OHCA and STEMI, successfully resuscitated and undergoing primary percutaneous intervention (PCI).

Methods: From January 2013 to July 2015, 78 patients with STEMI presenting OHCA, successfully resuscitated, transferred immediately to the catheterization unit and treated with primary PCI, were analyzed.

Aims And Background: In conservative early stage breast cancer surgery, the sample's margins are directly related to relapse, and positive or close margins indicate the need for additional surgery. Since the range of residual disease in secondary surgeries and the related pathological factors are highly variable, we intended to evaluate the number of additional surgeries due to compromised margins and identify the percentage of residual disease and factors related to it.

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the clinical records of 659 tumorectomy or needle localization surgery patients with breast carcinoma at the Hospital Universitario Austral in Buenos Aires, Argentina, between December 2000 and December 2012.

Background: DNA repair systems have a critical role in maintaining the genome integrity and stability. DNA repair gene polymorphisms may influence the capacity to repair DNA damage, and thus lead to an increased cancer susceptibility. X-ray repair cross-complementing groups 3 (XRCC3), a DNA repair gene, may be involved in acute myeloid leukemia susceptibility.

Female sexual offenders in the educational system: a brief overview.

Female sexual offenders comprise the minority of sexual offenders in the criminal justice system. However, empirical research reveals that sexual offenses against adolescents by females are a bigger problem than previously thought, particularly in the educational system. The authors review some of the data in the criminal justice system as well as in empirical research studies about female sexual offenders, with a specific focus on females who commit sexual crimes against students who are minors.

[Organ transplant patients' complex periodontal treatment].

The number of organ transplant patients has increased in recent years. The Cyclosporin-A (CsA) has been used at least for 20 years to control graft rejections. As many organ transplant patients also take Ca channel blocking medication this might potentiate the CsA associated gingival hyperplasia.

Expression patterns of CRH, CRH receptors, and CRH binding protein in human gestational tissue at term.

Recent research suggests a significant role for placental corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH) in controlling human parturition. This paper describes the expression of CRH, CRH receptors 1 and 2, and CRH binding protein (CRH-BP) in gestational tissue in late pregnancy. Placenta, myometrium, decidua, and fetal membranes were collected after uncomplicated pregnancies at term caesarian section before the onset of labour.

Formation of proinflammatory cytokines in human term myometrium is stimulated by lipopolysaccharide but not by corticotropin-releasing hormone.

Human term myometrium is poorly characterized as a source of proinflammatory mediators involved in parturition. We have investigated the basal expression of cytokines in myometrium, as well as the effects of CRH and lipopolysaccharide (LPS) on cytokine release. Explants from term myometrium were challenged with CRH or LPS (1 microg/mL each) in short-term tissue culture.

[Clinical experience with the treatment of gingival hyperplasia induced by calcium channel blocking agents].

Factors associated with weapon use in maternal filicide.

The objective of this study was to identify factors associated with weapon use in a group of filicidal women. Clinical data were gathered from the charts of sixty filicidal women evaluated at Michigan's Center for Forensic Psychiatry or through Connecticut's Psychiatric Security Review Board from 1970 to 1996. Factors associated with weapon use were determined using chi squares, ANCOVAS, and a logistic regression.

[The role of sensitivity of oral hygiene indices in the selection of proper methodology of plaque-control clinical studies].

Criminal responsibility and solvent exposure.

This case report contains the history of a man's exposure to benzene, trichloroethylene, and toluene. J suffered acutely from classic symptoms of toxic exposure to these compounds, such as fatigue, clumsiness, staggering, and hematopoietic depression. During his medical hospitalization, he was exposed to further organic insults, such as being treated with medications like Cytoxan and medications to treat an abscess in his right parietal lobe.

Cognitive dysfunction in a patient with long-term occupational exposure to ethylene oxide. Role of ethylene oxide as a causal factor.

This case illustrates a comprehensive approach to assessing causality in a woman with apparent cognitive dysfunction, as measured by neuropsychological testing, and a 10-year history of occupational exposure to ethylene oxide. The analysis included a multidisciplinary examination of the patient, which took place several years after the termination of her exposure. In addition, all of the patient's prior medical and psychiatric records were reviewed, as were the records of her employer to ascertain her exposure history.
