The detection of coronary artery calcification by roentgenoscopy is an important hint at possible ischemic heart disease. By the advent of image intensification and magnification, this examination can easily be performed. If no calcifications are visible, an ischemic heart disease must not be excluded.

In 3 patients with a congenital aneurysm of the membranous portion of the ventricular septum diagnosis could be made by angiography. One of these patients was clinically asymptomatic, while the two other patients were transferred for surgery because of right ventricular outflow tract obstruction or intracardiac left-to-right shunt. These both patients underwent successful open heart corrections.

In 44 patients with single or multiple valvular protheses of the heart, the problem of secondary iron deficiency due to mechanical hemolysis was investigated. In 17 cases, elevated serum transferrin values were noted, compared to elevated serum iron levels in only 6 cases. Therefore, treatment should be based on the more reliable transferrin values.

In 20 patients with acute myocardial infarction hemodynamic controls were performed after digitalisation and following i.v. injection of 0,4 mg of Prindolol.

The floating catheter technique is much more frequently used than before. So far, relatively rare complications become of practical importance. A report is given on three cases in which catheter fragments were cut off and floated into the right heart or pulmonary artery.

In 59 digitalized and 3 non digitalized patients the effect of digitalis during the 1st to 4th days after transmural myocardial infarction was controlled. Rhythm disturbances in acute myocardial infarction may arise secondary to a complicating cardiac failure and may be influenced by digitalis. In 9 of 17 cases (53 p.

Investigations into the problem of mechanical hemolysis were carried out in 28 patients with one or more prosthetic heart valve replacements. Signs of compensated intravascular hemolysis were demonstrated in all cases by determination of lactic dehydrogenase activity and free hemoglobin in the serum. We found no correlation between the type and number of prosthetic heart valves and the incidence of hemolysis.

Determinations of Noradrenaline-concentrations (NA) in the myocardium of the atria and ventricles of rats were performed and the influences of Practolol and Tyramine were controlled. Following Tyramine, NA was decreased significantly in all specimens. After preinjection of Practolol, NA depletion was considerably less in the right and left atria compared to control values.

In 70 patients hemodynamic controls were preformed during the first 4 days after acute myocardial infarction. A sufficient regulation of heart function and the circulation at rest was accepted with the following conditions: pulmonary artery wedge pressure less than or equal to 13mm Hg, mean right atrial pressure less than or equal to 6 mm Hg, mean systemic arterial pressure greater than 70 mm Hg, cardiac index greater than 2.51/min/m2 and stroke index greater than 25 ml/m2.

Dye dilution curves (DDC) from 35 patients with arteriovenous fistulas and from 22 patients with hyperthyreoidism were performed and compared with results in 122 healthy subjects. In most cases Cardiogreen was injected into an antecubital vein during reactive hyperaemia. On the arterial side, dye concentrations were recorded by ear oximetry.
