Performing primary posterior capsulorhexis (PPCCC) during cataract surgery is an effective prevention of secondary cataracts. It is important not to damage the anterior vitreous membrane to minimize the possible complications and adverse side effects of this step of the surgery. Most authors use a viscoelastic material to protect the anterior vitreous membrane, injected into the space between the posterior lens capsule and the vitreous membrane through a small hole in the posterior capsule.

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a non-contact and non-invasive imaging and diagnostic method, that allows the imaging of ocular tissues on transverse sections in extremely high quality of micrometer resolution. The physical principle of OCT is analogous to ultrasound, but it uses infrared radiation instead of acoustic waves. By using a low coherent radiation source, it is possible to achieve a higher resolution.

Objective Unfavorable eating patterns might contribute to the adverse health effects of shift work. Our objective was to examine differences in meal and snack frequency, as well as the quality of snacks, between shift and day workers and between different types of shifts. Methods Cross-sectional data from 485 healthcare workers aged 18-65 years of the Klokwerk+ cohort study was used.

The histopathological investigation found a multifocal interstitial inflammation characterized by numerous lymphocytes and a smaller number of plasma cells and eosinophils whilst L1 stage larvae could be seen inside dilated alveoli. We suggested a lethal angiostrongylosis supposed to lead to a fatal effect.

Unlabelled: A retrospective evaluation of cardiovascular disease (CV disease) in patients with pseudoexfoliative syndrome (PEX syndrome) and pseudoexfoliative glaucoma (PEX glaucoma) and their relationship to morphological and functional eye parameters. The main objective of this comparison was to identify parameters, that are among the groups with severe and mild CV disease statistically significantly different.
Methods And Results: Retrospective analysis of patients with PEX syndrome and PEX glaucoma.
Fungal sinus disease is being reported with increasing frequency. We could find no previously reported cases of sinonasal infections with Malbranchea pulchella and only two previously reported cases of human infection of any kind. We now report on a case of suspected sinonasal Malbranchea pulchella in a patient with aspirin-sensitive triad asthma.

The polymorphic DNA fragments detected with an apoA-I cDNA probe after digestion with the restriction endonucleases Sac I (S1 and S2 alleles), Msp I (M1 and M2 alleles), or Pst I (P1 and P2 alleles) were used to define polymorphic haplotypes. The uncommon S2M1 haplotype was present in the leukocyte genomic DNAs of 6 of 22 (27%) subjects with high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) levels in the lowest decile, in contrast to none of the 20 subjects with HDL-C levels in the highest decile.
