Article Synopsis
  • Calcifying odontogenic cyst (COC), or Gorlin cyst, is a rare benign cyst mainly found in jawbones, making up less than 1% of all odontogenic cysts, and can be linked to tumors like odontomas.
  • A case study of an 18-year-old female revealed a painless lesion in the right mandibular bone, which, after surgical removal, was confirmed to be COC associated with a complex odontoma through histopathology.
  • COC typically occurs in young adults and is characterized by calcified ghost cells; treatment involves total enucleation with a good prognosis, but long-term follow-up is essential to monitor for recurrences.

Article Synopsis
  • Nephropathic cystinosis is an autosomal recessive disorder linked to mutations in the CTNS gene affecting lysosomal cystine transport, and this study focuses on the genetic traits specific to Tunisian children with the condition.
  • Researchers analyzed clinical data from 12 Tunisian patients and discovered a new mutation (c.971-1G > C) prevalent in half of the patients, indicating it might be a founder mutation; other mutations were also observed.
  • The findings suggest that mutation patterns in the Tunisian population differ from other regions, highlighting the need for tailored molecular diagnostics and early treatment initiatives in Tunisia.

Objective: This study aims to search for reliable serological biomarkers allowing the early prediction of cystic echinococcosis (CE) post-operative outcomes.

Methods: We applied immunoprecipitation (IP) of Echinococcus granulosus protoscolex antigens with pediatric CE patients' plasma collected at 1-month and 1-year post-surgery, followed by Liquid Chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). We compared IP proteomic content from relapsed patients within the first-year post-surgery (RCE) to cases with no relapses until 3 post-operative years (NRCE).

This study investigates the relationships among renewable energies (RE), carbon dioxide (CO) emissions, foreign direct investment (FDI), foreign and non-foreign patents (FP, NFP), and trade (TR) for the case of Tunisia using time series data spanning the period 1980-2017. The autoregressive distributed lags (ARDL) model approach of Pesaran et al. (J Appl Econ 16:289-326, 2001) and the causality of Granger are employed to explore the dynamic association between the underlined variables.
