Using local ferromagnetic resonance spectroscopy, we have studied the magnetic properties near edges of thin tangentially magnetized permalloy films, in which a well-defined uniaxial magnetic anisotropy was induced perpendicular to one of the edges. In the experiment, two samples with thicknesses of 90 and 300 nm and with slightly different compositions were examined. To explain the magnetization dynamics near edges, we propose a simple yet effective model of a film in the form of a rectangular prism, which yields the modified Kittel formula for the resonance frequency.

Structural modulation in thin films plays a substantial role in the formation of their magnetic properties. By producing topographic patterns in thin films, it is possible to engineer their magnetic response. Here, we report on the numerical study of the relationship between structural and static magnetic properties of thin films obliquely deposited on substrates with the sinusoidal surface.

A conversion efficiency of 0.65% is observed at a one-layer 100 nm NiFe thin film at an input signal level of 4.

Every grating acts as a semi-reflecting mirror. Such novel filters have wide stop bands compared to conventional filters with multilayer dielectric mirrors between resonators at the same passband width.

Here, every grating acts as a mirror with specified transparency. Relative to the conventional multilayer bandpass filter with multilayer dielectric mirrors, the proposed filter has multiply extended stop bands below and above the passband.

The filter, which is made of two dielectric materials, comprises coupled half-wavelength resonators and multilayer mirrors. The filter design begins with the synthesis of the multimaterial filter prototype whose mirrors consist of quarter-wavelength layers.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA double-blind study of the behavioral effects of short-term naloxone hydrochloride administration was performed in 32 schizophrenic and 26 manic patients in a World Health Organization collaborative project. There was a significant naloxone-associated reduction in overall physician-rated symptoms in schizophrenic patients concurrently treated with neuroleptic medication (N = 19) but not in medication-free schizophrenics (N = 13). Physician rating of auditory hallucinations showed significant naloxone-associated improvement for the total schizophrenic population, while self-ratings of auditory hallucinations showed improvement only in neuroleptic-treated schizophrenics.
