This Special Issue is focused on all the technologies necessary for the development of an efficient wireless acoustic sensor network, from the first stages of its design to the tests conducted during deployment; its final performance; and possible subsequent implications for authorities in terms of the definition of policies. This Special Issue collects the contributions of several LIFE and H2020 projects aimed at the design and implementation of intelligent acoustic sensor networks, with a focus on the publication of good practices for the design and deployment of intelligent networks in any locations.

The present work reports the enzymatic valorisation of the protein fraction of scotta, a dairy by-product representing the exhausted liquid residue of ricotta production. Scotta was subjected to ultra-filtration with membrane cut-offs from 500 to 4 kDa and the obtained protein-enriched fractions were used for the optimization of enzyme-based digestions aimed at producing potentially bioactive peptides. Nine different commercial proteases were tested and the best digestion conditions were selected based on protein yield, fraction bioactivity and foreseen scale up processing costs.

The aims of this study were to translate and culturally adapt the Volitional Questionnaire (VQ) into Italian and to evaluate its psychometric properties in an Italian population of patients with psychiatric disorders. The translation process from English into Italian was carried out in agreement with the authors of the original scale. The study was carried out in three psychiatric facilities, with 33 patients with psychiatric diagnoses, who were older than 18 years, and two raters (6 total) for each facility in Rome, Italy.

Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are a group of heterogeneous drugs largely known for their anti-inflammatory, antipyretic, and analgesic effects, which are met by means of the inhibition of the cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes. Even when their use in patients with diabetes mellitus is limited due to relevant adverse events, some pharmacological and metabolic effects of NSAIDs have been further studied to be potentially beneficial in the prevention and/or treatment of diabetic subjects. Effects on endogenous glucose production, peripheral insulin resistance, pancreatic islet, and systemic inflammation and the insulin clearance have been reported.

This article examines the drug relatedness of violent events reported by White, Black, and Hispanic male and female street drug users from New York City. The primary purpose is to determine if the drugs-violence relationship varies for these different populations of drug abusers. Drug relatedness is assessed according to a tripartite conceptual model of the general relationship between drugs and violence.

In this paper the nature, scope, and drug relatedness of violent events reported by a sample of methadone maintenance treatment clients is examined and compared with events reported by a sample of drug abusers not in treatment. The drug relatedness of events is ascertained according to a tripartite model of the drugs-violence relationship. Data derive from a study of the drugs-violence nexus among male drug users and distributors who lived in or frequented the lower east side of Manhattan.

Ethnographic field stations are not a substitute for traditional ethnography, because they provide an "unnatural" setting for research interaction and observation to take place. However, they do provide perhaps the optimal setting for qualitative and quantitative methodologies to be undertaken in a single research effort. In this sense, they are critically important for advancing our knowledge about drug abusers and their behaviors.
