An Eye Tracking System (ETS) is used at CNAO for providing a stable and reproducible ocular proton therapy (OPT) set-up, featuring a fixation light (FL) and monitoring stereo-cameras embedded in a rigid case. The aim of this work is to propose an ETS set-up simulation algorithm, that automatically provides the FL positioning in space, according to patient-specific gaze direction and avoiding interferences with patient, beam and collimator. Two configurations are provided: one in the CT room for acquiring images required for treatment planning with the patient lying on a couch, and one related to the treatment room with the patient sitting in front of the beam.

The observation of forward proton scattering in association with lepton pairs (e^{+}e^{-}+p or μ^{+}μ^{-}+p) produced via photon fusion is presented. This Letter presents a search for the production of new heavy resonances decaying into a Higgs boson and a photon using proton-proton collision data at sqrt[s]=13  TeV collected by the ATLAS detector at the LHC. Assessing the ecological impacts of environmental change on biological communities requires knowledge of the factors driving the spatial patterns of the three diversity facets along extensive environmental gradients. We quantified the taxonomic (TD), functional (FD), and phylogenetic diversity (PD) of lichen epiphytic communities in 23 beech forests along Europe to examine their response to environmental variation (climate, habitat quality, spatial predictors) at a continental geographic scale. We selected six traits related to the climatic conditions in forest ecosystems, the water-use strategy and the nutrient uptake, and we built a phylogenetic tree based on four molecular markers.

Background: Lutzomyia longipalpis-derived cell line (Lulo) has been suggested as a model for studies of interaction between sandflies and Leishmania.

Objectives: Here, we present data of proteomic and gene expression analyses of Lulo cell related to interactions with Leishmania (Viannia) braziliensis.

Piezoelectric quasi-1D peptide nanotubes and plasmonic metal nanoparticles are combined to create a flexible and self-energized surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) substrate that strengthens SERS signal intensities by over an order of magnitude compared to an unflexed substrate. The platform is used to sense bovine serum albumin, lysozyme, glucose, and adenine. Finite-element electromagnetic modeling indicates that the signal enhancement results from piezoelectric-induced charge, which is mechanically activated via substrate bending.

This Letter describes a search for narrowly resonant new physics using a machine-learning anomaly detection procedure that does not rely on signal simulations for developing the analysis selection. Weakly supervised learning is used to train classifiers directly on data to enhance potential signals. The targeted topology is dijet events and the features used for machine learning are the masses of the two jets.

The stability of ecological communities is critical for the stable provisioning of ecosystem services, such as food and forage production, carbon sequestration, and soil fertility. Greater biodiversity is expected to enhance stability across years by decreasing synchrony among species, but the drivers of stability in nature remain poorly resolved. Our analysis of time series from 79 datasets across the world showed that stability was associated more strongly with the degree of synchrony among dominant species than with species richness.

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) represents a heightened inflammatory response in the lung generally resulting from tobacco smoking-induced recruitment and activation of inflammatory cells and/or activation of lower airway structural cells. Several mediators can modulate activation and recruitment of these cells, particularly those belonging to the chemokines (conventional and atypical) family. There is emerging evidence for complex roles of atypical chemokines and their receptors (such as high mobility group box 1 (HMGB1), antimicrobial peptides, receptor for advanced glycosylation end products (RAGE) or toll-like receptors (TLRs)) in the pathogenesis of COPD, both in the stable disease and during exacerbations.
