Since 2011, extended care paramedics in South Australia have collaborated with palliative care services to deliver successful palliative and end of life care. However, a gap in paramedic training was identified with a growing number of patients opting for home palliation, prompting the development of a 2021 education program by the South Australian Ambulance Service in partnership with Program of Experience in the Palliative Approach, to equip paramedics with enhanced skills and resources for effective palliative care in the community. To qualitatively evaluate the effectiveness of the education program provided to paramedics by exploring their subjective experience in providing palliative care within the community following the education program.

Objective: The integration of end of life care into emergency work is gaining momentum, especially in Australia. Emergency doctors and nurses are increasingly required to make decisions regarding the provision of end of life care. The importance of end of life care for patients and their families in the emergency department is well documented, but ethical dilemmas that arise in end of life care provision are not widely researched.

Objectives: Preventing minor-attracted persons from acting on their impulses is a significant public health concern. To address this, the STOP telephone helpline was established nationwide in France in January 2021. This service acts as a bridge, connecting callers with their nearest CRIAVS (resource centers for professionals working with sex offenders) where they can speak with a healthcare professional who can guide them toward appropriate care if needed.

The low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) lowering decreases the risk to develop major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS). Therefore, the "fast track" use of PCSK9 inhibitors (PCSK9i) has been introduced in ACS patients not achieving LDL-C target (70 mg/dl) despite an ongoing lipid lowering therapy with statin at maximum tolerated dosage plus ezetimibe or stain-naïve (LDL-C > 130 mg/dl). PCSK9i "fast track" use has shown to achieve the regression of "non-culprit" atherosclerotic plaques leading to a further MACE decrease.

Article Synopsis
  • The research aimed to understand how rural and remote pharmacists interact with grey nomads who have diabetes, using a qualitative approach to gather insights from their experiences.
  • Interviews with nine pharmacists led to four main themes: the impact of rural locations on service delivery, challenges faced by pharmacists, travel preparation needs for grey nomads with diabetes, and the pharmacists' readiness to assist them.
  • The study concluded that pharmacists should be compensated for their services to grey nomads, suggested improvements like integrating pharmacists into My Health records and telehealth, and emphasized the need for specialized education on diabetes management for pharmacists.

Article Synopsis
  • - Clozapine is effective for treatment-resistant schizophrenia but carries serious side effects like hematological issues and myocarditis, alongside less severe but impactful dermatological reactions.
  • - A 25-year-old male experienced cholinergic urticaria—intense itching and redness triggered by sweating—after four months on clozapine, which impaired his daily life despite treatment adjustments.
  • - Switching from clozapine to quetiapine resulted in improvement, highlighting the need for personalized treatment plans and the importance of managing side effects, even those that appear after an extended period.

Background: Immunization is one of the most significant health initiatives of recent times. Despite this, vaccine hesitancy is increasing and was listed as one of the top 10 threats to global health by the World Health Organization in 2019. A major factor associated with vaccine hesitancy is thought to be the viral spread of misinformation by a small but active anti-vaccination movement.

Objective: Transit-time flow measurement (TTFM) represents a valid tool in the assessment of the quality of the anastomosis during coronary artery bypass graft (CABG). Nevertheless, a high variability limits its standardized use, lacking univocally accepted cut-off flow values. Our study analyzes TTFM data collected from a study population that underwent off-pump CABG (OP-CABG), with the aim to differentiate into subgroups according to the presence of diabetes mellitus.

Obesity condition causes morphological and functional alterations involving the cardiovascular system. These can represent the substrates for different cardiovascular diseases, such as atrial fibrillation, coronary artery disease, sudden cardiac death, and heart failure (HF) with both preserved ejection fraction (EF) and reduced EF. Different pathogenetic mechanisms may help to explain the association between obesity and HF including left ventricular remodelling and epicardial fat accumulation, endothelial dysfunction, and coronary microvascular dysfunction.

Catatonia is a severe and potentially life-threatening neuropsychiatric condition. Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) is the gold standard second-line intervention for catatonia after benzodiazepine failure. However, the access to ECT can be particularly challenging, especially during periods of increased strain on medical facilities, such as the COVID-19 pandemic.

Objective: An advance care directive is a legal document outlining the wishes made by a person about treatment options. However, there is increasing evidence that an advance care directive that has previously been documented may not always benefit the current prognosis of the patient. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to explore the experiences of Australian emergency doctors and nurses concerning the use of previously documented advance care directives at the point of care for patients and their families.

Neuroplasticity is a crucial property of the central nervous system to change its activity in response to intrinsic or extrinsic stimuli. This is mainly achieved through the promotion of changes in the epigenome. One of the epi-drivers priming this process is suberoylanilide hydroxamic acid (SAHA or Vorinostat), a pan-histone deacetylase inhibitor that modulates and promotes neuroplasticity in healthy and disease conditions.

Aim: The aim of this paper is to critically reflect on our team's experience of using netnography to explore vaccine-hesitant parents and pregnant women, a group who have traditionally been difficult to recruit to research studies and a methodology that is underutilized in nursing research.

Design: This paper takes the form of a discussion paper that will utilize data obtained from a qualitative netnographic study. Relevant literature was searched including 2015-2023.

Quantitative information on epidemiological quantities such as the incubation period and generation time of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) variants is scarce. We analysed a dataset collected during contact tracing activities in the province of Reggio Emilia, Italy, throughout 2021. We determined the distributions of the incubation period for the Alpha and Delta variants using information on negative polymerase chain reaction tests and the date of last exposure from 282 symptomatic cases.

Background: In physiotherapists, biomechanical overload risk assessment (RA) is particularly complex due to the tasks' variability. The present study aims to propose a new methodology, named Whole Body RA Biomechanical Overload (WB-RAMBO), to assess the risk in the activities performed by physiotherapists.

Methods: Each type of intervention was broken down into elementary operations.

Bangladesh has the third largest population of poor older adults in the world and 73% of them live in rural areas. Disparity in the country's health services is evident that creates a substantial pressure, especially on rural elderly women who live in a compromised socio-cultural atmosphere. This is true that we know about rural elderly women's self-reported health and service use barriers, but no studies captured the views of health staff.

Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is a fatal brain tumor without effective drug treatment. In this study, we highlight, for the first time, the contribution of chromatin remodeling gene Lysine (K)-specific demethylase 5C () in GBM via an extensive analysis of clinical, expression, and functional data, integrated with publicly available omic datasets. The expression analysis on GBM samples (N = 37) revealed two informative subtypes, namely KDM5C and KDM5C, displaying higher/lower KDM5C levels compared to the controls.

Intravenous leiomyomatosis (IVL) are rare and complex tumors, characterized by high rates of recurrences after surgical removal and the capability of multi-organ involvement including pulmonary embolization. Regarding the surgical treatment of Intracardiac Leiomiomatosis (ICL), only few articles have been published and no controlled data are available. A combined approach that involves a Team of Cardiologists, Heart Surgeons, Vascular surgeons and Radiologists seems to be successful in treating ICL.
