Technical comparison of Abbott's UroVysion and Biocare's CytoFISH urine fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) assays.

Background: This study aims to compare the technical performance of Abbott's UroVysion and Biocare's CytoFISH urine cytology probe panel and position the CytoFISH probe panel as an alternative to UroVysion. The CytoFISH probe panel was developed based on clinically sensitive chromosomes found to be amplified in bladder cancers, as well as a locus-specific probe also seen to be amplified in bladder tumors. After extensive testing comparing CytoFISH to UroVysion, we present here our findings for the two assays.

Liesegang rings developing within intraperitoneal endometriotic implants. A case report.

Liesegang rings are acellular, laminated structures that have been reported to accompany a variety of necrotizing and hemorrhagic tissue processes. Although most frequently seen in the kidneys and synovium, they can be present in other tissues. Liesegang rings are of importance because they are frequently confused by pathologists with helminth ova and nematodes, which they resemble.

Injury of the superficial peroneal nerve.

Peripheral nerve injuries may be caused by traction, friction, or compression. The patient's history is helpful in the differential diagnosis of traumatic injury from other causes of peripheral nerve pathology. The authors present and discuss the case history of a patient with a severe plantarflexion and inversion injury.

Combined anticonvulsant osteomalacia and paget's disease: a case report.

In a 71-year-old woman with severe anticonvulsant osteomalacia and Paget's disease, vitamin D (50,000 units orally twice/week and 400 units orally daily) produced dramatic subjective improvement. Bone biopsies showed a striking increase in areas of mineralized bone after treatment, although the pagetoid appearance of bone trabeculae remained unchanged. The patient's blood and urinary calcium levels were low initially, and did not increase significantly after vitamin D administration.

[Efficacy of systemic rehabilitation in patients with myocardial infarct--a 4 years' study].

Form and results of the rehabilitation of patients with myocardial infarction during and after clinical treatment are described in a 4-year-study. According to the form a system rehabilitation is concerned. It comprises a continuous course of early mobilisation during clinical treatment, immediately following group exercise treatment after clinical treatment, then a sanatory cure and a continuing life-long group training.

[Diagnosis and therapy of primary hyperaldosteronism in general practice].

Taking into consideration an own observation of Conn's syndrome the diagnostics and therapy of the primary hyperaldosteronism is described. The recognition of Conn's syndrome is important for that account as it coincides with an operatively curable hypertension. Therefore, a diagnostic step programme is proposed.

Ultrasonic-cardiographic long-term observations in patients with operated stenosis of the mitral valve.

135 patients operated for stenosis of the mitral valve were observed and treated 10.3 years, on the average. Three years of this time belong to the preoperative period and 7.
