A multistep synthesis of a new tetra-amidate macrocyclic ligand functionalized with alkyl-thiophene moieties, 15,15-bis(6-(thiophen-3-yl)hexyl)-8,13-dihydro-5H-dibenzo[b,h][1,4,7,10]tetraazacyclotridecine-6,7,14,16(15H,17H)-tetraone, H L, is reported. The reaction of the deprotonated ligand, L , and Cu(II) generates the complex [LCu] , that can be further oxidized to Cu(III) with iodine to generate [LCu] . The H L ligand and their Cu complexes have been thoroughly characterized by analytic and spectroscopic techniques (including X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy, XAS).

Background: Extended criteria donor livers are increasingly being accepted for transplant in an attempt to bridge the gap between the number of patients on the waiting list and the number of available donor livers. Our objective was to describe our first case of hepatic resuscitation by means of an ex situ perfusion machine in hypothermia with oxygen insufflation of a liver graft extracted from a donor in type 3 asystole after regional perfusion in normothermia.

Methods: A 53-year-old woman with disabling polycystic liver disease was included on the liver transplant waiting list.

Background: Liver retransplantation can be classified as urgent (when performed in the first week after the transplantation) or elective, which may be considered as early (first month post-transplantation) or late (after the first month). The time in which retransplantation takes place is determined by the cause that makes it necessary. The goal of this study is to analyze the causes and results of early retransplantation in our center.

Lung cancer during pregnancy is a very rare disease with less than 70 cases published to date. Information about specific lung cancer as adenocarcinoma is even more limited. Genetic techniques can detect oncogene mutations which seem to be more frequent among cases of lung cancer in pregnant women and could determine both the treatment and prognosis.

Sugar beet pulp (SBP) has been investigated as a promising feedstock for ABE fermentation by Clostridium beijerinckii. Although lignin content in SBP is low, a pretreatment is needed to enhance enzymatic hydrolysis and fermentation yields. Autohydrolysis at pH 4 has been selected as the best pretreatment for SBP in terms of sugars release and acetone and butanol production.

Hypertension and obesity are two closely related pathologies in clinical practice. Currently, about one billion adults worldwide are overweight, and it is estimated that, if no serious action is taken to effect profound change, that figure will continue to rise throughout this century. Hypertension is also a serious public health problem worldwide, one that, along with type 2 diabetes, is growing due to increases in both life expectancy and obesity.

The progressive increase in the number of liver transplantation candidates has brought with it a consequent increase in waiting list mortality, making it necessary to revise donor selection criteria and to analyze the factors that optimize outcomes. This retrospective observational study of 1802 liver transplantations performed in Andalusia between 2000 and 2010 analyzes the outcomes from donors aged 70 years or older (n = 211) in terms of survival rates of the graft and the recipient, the type of transplant, donor age, and DMELD (Donor-Model for End-Stage Liver Disease) score. The most frequent reasons for transplantation were alcoholic cirrhosis (45.

Liver transplantation for the treatment of patients with advanced liver disease is organized according to a waiting list taking into account different criteria. The agreed distribution model in Andalusia assumes that sometimes an organ is extracted in a different province to that where the implantation is to be performed (shipping), which, therefore, increases the graft ischemic time. The aim of the present study was to determine whether transportation of the organ and being harvested by a team other than the implantation team have a negative effect on final patient survival.
