Upconversion nanohybrids (UCNHs) consisting of rose bengal (RB) and upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs) are able to promote terpinene oxidation upon near-infrared irradiation. The photophysical events occurring upon NIR-irradiation of the UCNH correlate well with the synthetic protocol used to prepare the UCNHs (RB loading and aggregation). These results highlight the importance of the optimization of UCNH composition for the photocatalysis outcome.

These photoactive EOS-Yb NPs emit in the visible and near infrared (NIR) upon excitation at 530 nm and can also display NIR-to-visible upconversion emission upon excitation at 980 nm.

Here, we investigate the sensitization mechanisms through visible-light excitation of two nanohybrids based on CsPbBr perovskite nanocrystals (NC) functionalized with borondipyrromethene (BODIPY) dyes, specifically 8-(4-carboxyphenyl)-1,3,5,7-tetramethyl-4,4-difluoro-4-bora-3a,4a-diaza-s-indacene (BDP) and 8-(4-carboxyphenyl)-2,6-diiodo-1,3,5,7-tetramethyl-4,4-difluoro-4-bora-3a,4a-diaza-s-indacene (I2-BDP), named as NC@BDP and NC@I2-BDP, respectively. The ability of I2-BDP dyes to extract hot hole carriers from the perovskite nanocrystals is comprehensively investigated by combining steady-state and time-resolved fluorescence as well as femtosecond transient absorption spectroscopy with spectroelectrochemistry and quantum chemical theoretical calculations, which together provide a complete overview of the phenomena that take place in the nanohybrid.

By means of acceptorless dehydrogenative condensation, heterocycles, such as indoles, can be obtained. Herein we present an experimental and theoretical study for this purpose employing heterogeneous catalysts Pt/Al2O3 and ZnO in combination with an acid catalyst (p-TSA) and NMP as solvent.

Due to the complexity of target motion during cardiac and pulmonary motion as well as the several proximate radio-sensitive structures of the tracheobronchial tree and esophagogastrointestinal tract, four potential candidates for this treatment were identified: Accuray CyberKnife (Accuray Incorporated, Sunnyvale, California, United States), Varian TrueBeam (Varian Medical Systems, Palo Alto, California, USA), Elekta Infinity (Elekta, Stockholm, Sweden), and Varian Edge (Varian Medical Systems, Palo Alto, California, USA). All four treatment modalities were evaluated for their ability to deliver a conformal, homogeneous dose to most of the target volume, to spare nearby and distant critical and sensitive anatomical structures as well as for treatment efficiency.

We report quantitative measurements of the relative reactivities of a series of C-H bonds of gaseous or liquid C H alkanes (n=1-8, 29 different C-H bonds) towards in situ generated electrophiles (copper, silver, and rhodium carbenes), with methane as the reference. This strategy surpasses the drawback of previous model reactions of alkanes with strong electrophiles suffering from C-C cleavage processes, which precluded direct comparison of the relative reactivities of alkane C-H bonds.

The target and OAR spatial proximity provided a more realistic treatment planning and dose delivery exercise. A separate dosimetry insert contained two TLD for absolute dosimetry and radiochromic film, in the sagittal and coronal planes, for relative dosimetry.

Methods: A phantom was constructed from a water equivalent, plastic, head-shaped shell. The original phantom design, with only a spherical target, was modified to include a nonspherical target (pituitary) and an adjacent organ at risk (OAR) (optic chiasm), within 2 mm, simulating the anatomy encountered when treating acromegaly.
Purpose: To study the angular dependence of optically stimulated luminescence dosimeters (OSLD) in the Radiological Physics Center anthropomorphic quality assurance pelvic phantom to provide accurate dosimetric measurements as a replacement for TLD.
Methods: A spherical phantom was constructed to investigate the angular response of the OSLD as oriented in the RPC pelvic phantom. Three OSLD per irradiation angle, placed at the center of the spherical phantom, were irradiated with 100 cGy from six different angles.
Objectives: The association between workplace bullying and psychotropic drug use is not well established. This study was aimed at exploring the association between workplace bullying, and its characteristics, and psychotropic drug use and studying the mediating role of physical and mental health.
Methods: The study population consisted of a random sample of 3132 men and 4562 women of the working population in the south-east of France.
Study Objectives: The purpose of this study was to explore the associations between workplace bullying, the characteristics of workplace bullying, and sleep disturbances in a large sample of employees of the French working population.
Design: Workplace bullying, evaluated using the validated instrument developed by Leymann, and sleep disturbances, as well as covariates, were measured using a self-administered questionnaire. Covariates included age, marital status, presence of children, education, occupation, working hours, night work, physical and chemical exposures at work, self-reported health, and depressive symptoms.
The purpose of this study was to determine if intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) offers a better treatment plan compared to conventional radiotherapy for patients with pectus excavatum desiring breast-conserving therapy and to assess the feasibility of simultaneous modulated accelerated radiation therapy (SMART) boost. A patient with pectus excavatum desired breast-conserving therapy for her early stage breast cancer. She underwent lumpectomy and axillary lymph node dissection followed by chemotherapy.

To convert ionization in the phantom into dose and that in air into primary dose, correction factors must be applied to chamber readings in both geometries.

Methods And Materials: Optimized conformal radiation treatment plans were generated for both single and multiple intracranial lesions using a conventional radiosurgery treatment-planning system computer and the Peacock treatment-planning computer. The Peacock system is a conformal therapy system that uses intensity modulated beams, back projection, and the simulated annealing optimization technique.
