Depressive symptoms are one of the mental health problems among Korean American (KA) youth. Although several studies examined mental distress among KA youth, few have examined the associations between different familial factors, negative emotionality, and depressive symptoms among them, especially using longitudinal data. Drawing on the Triadic Model of Family Process (TMFP), this study examined the longitudinal associations between Korean-specific aspects of familial factors and depressive symptoms among KA youth and the mediation role of negative emotionality in the relationships.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a multi-stage process initiated through the formation of a benign adenoma, progressing to an invasive carcinoma and finally metastatic spread. Tumour cells must adapt their metabolism to support the energetic and biosynthetic demands associated with disease progression. As such, targeting cancer cell metabolism is a promising therapeutic avenue in CRC.

Article Synopsis
  • About 50% of neuroblastomas with poor prognosis are linked to the over-expression of the MYCN protein, and previous research has shown that targeting PRMT5 leads to cell death in these cases.
  • The study evaluates GSK3203591, a new PRMT5 inhibitor, showing that it inhibits MYCN-dependent growth and triggers changes in gene expression and mRNA splicing in MNA neuroblastoma cells, particularly affecting glutamine metabolism.
  • In tests on mice, the related compound GSK3326593 demonstrated increased survival, confirming that both drugs exploit PRMT5's role in splicing and regulation of metabolic pathways in MYCN-amplified neuroblastomas.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study highlights the need for clarity in distinguishing between gender and sex in arthroplasty research, especially with increasing focus on transgender, gender nonconforming, and intersex identities.
  • - A review of 100 primary clinical research articles from top orthopaedic journals showed that most utilized gender or sex terminology, but often interchangeably and without clear definitions, leading to a lack of nuanced understanding.
  • - The findings indicate a prevalent binary perspective on gender and sex in these articles, with only a small percentage using these terms for detailed statistical analysis, suggesting a need for more precise and inclusive approaches in future research.

Article Synopsis
  • - Exercise is an effective short-term treatment for chronic low back pain (CLBP), but adherence decreases over time, affecting long-term benefits.
  • - The study synthesized qualitative research to identify perceptions, barriers, and facilitators influencing exercise adherence in individuals with CLBP, using a hybrid analysis approach.
  • - Four main themes impacting exercise adherence were identified: physical pain and body perception, psychological aspects, social influences, and external factors, with 16 subthemes showing that each factor can act as both a barrier and enabler depending on the exercise scenario.

Research has established the impact of paternal depression on fathering behaviors and child outcomes. Despite this, less is known about the mechanisms linking paternal depressive symptomology to paternal warmth, particularly regarding the role of parenting stress and beliefs in the centrality of the paternal role. The aim of this study was to examine factors potentially associated with paternal warmth.

Introduction: Children and adolescents are increasingly prescribed antipsychotic medications off-label in the treatment of behavioural disorders. While antipsychotic medications are effective in managing behavioural issues, they carry a significant risk of adverse events that compromise ongoing physical health. Of particular concern is the negative impact antipsychotic medications have on cardiometabolic health.

Background Context: Multilevel cervical myelopathy is a common cause of spinal cord dysfunction in adults. Surgical intervention via laminoplasty can provide satisfactory clinical outcomes by expansive decompression of the spinal cord. Traditional suture or bone graft techniques have been associated with insufficient fixation, leading to premature closure and subsequent neurological deterioration.

Background: Despite growing recognition of the importance of fathers in child abuse risk, the field of perinatal home visitation has only begun to consider fathers' roles in the implementation of such services.

Objectives: This study examines the effectiveness of Dads Matter-HV ("DM-HV"), a father-inclusion enhancement to home visitation, and hypothesized mediators of impact.

Methods: A multisite cluster randomized controlled trial was conducted with 17 home visiting program teams serving 204 families across study conditions.

Background: People with intellectual disabilities (ID) experience high rates of lifestyle related morbidities, in part due to lack of access to tailored health promotion programmes. This study aimed to assess the feasibility and preliminary efficacy of a tailored healthy lifestyle intervention, Get Healthy!

Methods: Get Healthy! is a 12-week physical activity and healthy eating programme designed to address lifestyle-related risks for adults with mild-moderate ID. The feasibility pilot was designed to assess subjective participant experience and programme feasibility across: recruitment and screening, retention, session attendance and engagement, adverse events, and practicality and reliability of outcome procedures.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to compare the long-term stability of two common graft types, columellar strut grafts and septal extension grafts, used in primary rhinoplasty procedures.
  • A review of 133 rhinoplasty cases showed that patients with septal extension grafts experienced virtually no loss in projection (0.2%) and minimal rotation loss, while those with columellar struts faced a significant projection loss (4.7%) and greater rotation loss (4.9 degrees).
  • The findings suggest that septal extension grafts are more effective for maintaining nose shape over time, and the risks associated with columellar strut grafts should be considered in surgical planning.

Liquid rhinoplasty, otherwise known as nonsurgical or filler rhinoplasty, has earned increased attention for its ability to provide surgical rhinoplasty results at a fraction of the cost and without incising the skin. However, significant complications can arise, such as tissue necrosis, filler embolus, and vascular compromise if the procedure is performed without consideration of the principles and anatomy of the face and nose. As demonstrated in this article, a stepwise and patient-specific approach to performing liquid rhinoplasty will ensure safe, consistent, and desirable results.
