Unlabelled: We performed two-dimensional echocardiograms and determined plasma norepinephrine levels on admission and at 24h after hospitalization, in 16 children with scorpion envenomation. All patients came from areas where scorpions have been identified as Tityus zulianus and received antivenin at the site of the accident or upon admission. Objective: To assess the effect of inhaled budesonide on the mineral density, content and bone metabolism in children with asthma.
Material And Methods: From September 1996 to July 1997, a cross-sectional study was conducted in 38 prepubertal children aged 6 to 11 years, selected from the pediatric chest outpatient clinic of the Instituto Autónomo Hospital Universitario de Los Andes, Mérida, Venezuela. Three study groups were assembled: 9 asthmatic children treated with inhaled budesonide (300 micrograms/day) for over 6 months (Group A); 14 asthmatic children not treated with inhaled corticosteroids (Group B); and 15 non-asthmatic children (Group C).

This behaviour depends on the tendency of Tamm-Horsfall glycoprotein at normal urinary concentrations to form a gel in a solution containing mono- and divalent ions. By means of two-step filtration, the glycoprotein was purified to homogeneity.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFPreviously, we described the presence of a factor obtained from a 105,000 X g supernatant of rat testis that was found to inhibit human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) binding to gonadal receptors. In the present study, similarly prepared testicular extract was tested for its effects on in vitro hCG-stimulated testosterone production by isolated testis interstitial cells and for its effect on spontaneous ovulation in the rat. Incubation of interstitial cells with charcoal-treated extract significantly inhibited the steroidogenic response to hCG in a dose-related manner.
