The association between psoriasis and streptococcal infection has been widely explored in both children and adults. However, the exact impact of Streptococcus pharyngeal infection on the course of psoriasis is not fully comprehended. This study explored the impact of Streptococcus pharyngeal infection on psoriasis and investigated the effectiveness of systemic antibiotic therapy in conjunction with standard topical treatment for psoriatic patients with concomitant streptococcal throat infection.

Performance evaluation of the LIOFeron®TB/LTBI IGRA for screening of paediatric LTBI and tuberculosis.

Purpose: High-accuracy diagnostic screening tests for Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) infection are required, primarily to detect patients with latent infections (LTBIs) in order to avoid their progression to active tuberculosis disease. The performance of the novel IGRA LIOFeron®TB/LTBI was evaluated in children. The originality of this test is the new MTB antigen contained (L-alanine dehydrogenase), identified as a tool to differentiate active TB from LTBI infection.

Role of vascularised fibula graft in the surgical management of radiation-induced midshaft femoral fractures. Case report and literature review.

Background: Post-radiation fractures (PRF) are a recognised complication of radiation treatment for soft tissue sarcomas. They have a low incidence and typically occur up to 5 years following treatment, more commonly affecting the pelvis, ribs and femur. Due to radiation-induced changes in bone, PRFs typically require more complicated intervention compared to post-trauma fractures, however, limited literature exists, particularly in regards to mid-shaft femoral PRFs.

Effects of a synergic interaction between magnesium sulphate and ketamine on the perioperative nociception in dogs undergoing tibial plateau leveling osteotomy: a pilot study.

Introduction: Magnesium Sulphate (MgSO) is commonly used in human medicine for the management of perioperative pain in different types of procedures. However, in veterinary medicine, the use of MgSO has not been evaluated for its analgesic efficacy in dogs, which has generated conflicts of opinion in this area of veterinary anesthesiology. The aim of this study was to evaluate the perioperative analgesic efficacy of MgSO in combination with Ketamine in dogs undergoing Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy (TPLO).

Interleukin 17 producing T cell responses in human chronic trichinellosis-insight from a case study.

Introduction: We studied the cellular immune response in a patient infected since 10 months (along with other 51 people) during a trichinellosis outbreak caused by Trichinella spp.

Methods: A 46 years old female resulted serologically positive for trichinellosis. We isolated peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) and incubated them with excretory/secretory antigens (ESA) of Trichinella spiralis (T1) or Trichinella pseudospiralis (T4) to produce antigen specific T cell lines and clones, analysed for the phenotype (T helper or cytotoxic cells), for their T4 or T1 antigens specificity and for their cytokine profile (IFNγ, IL-17A, IL-4) by flow cytometry, thymidine incorporation assay and ELISpot.

A dynamically loaded model to study neocartilage and integration in human cartilage repair.

Articular cartilage injuries in the knee can lead to post-traumatic osteoarthritis if untreated, causing debilitating problems later in life. Standard surgical treatments fail to ensure long lasting repair of damaged cartilage, often resulting in fibrotic tissue. While there is a vast amount of research into cartilage regeneration, integrating engineered implants with cartilage remains a challenge.

Feasibility and barriers to rapid establishment of patient-derived primary osteosarcoma cell lines in clinical management.

Osteosarcoma is a highly aggressive primary bone tumor that has seen little improvement in survival rates in the past three decades. Preclinical studies are conducted on a small pool of commercial cell lines which may not fully reflect the genetic heterogeneity of this complex cancer, potentially hindering translatability of results. Developing a single-site laboratory protocol to rapidly establish patient-derived primary cancer cell lines (PCCL) within a clinically actionable time frame of a few weeks will have significant scientific and clinical ramifications.

Atherosclerotic disease of the carotid arteries is a crucial risk factor in predicting the likelihood of future stroke events. In addition, emerging studies suggest that carotid stenosis may also be an indicator of plaque load on coronary arteries and thus have a correlation with the risk of acute cardiovascular events. Furthermore, although in symptomatic patients the degree of stenosis is the main morphological parameter studied, recent evidence suggests, especially in asymptomatic patients, that plaque vulnerability should also be evaluated as an emerging and significant imaging parameter.

Background: Obesity is a global epidemic that affects millions worldwide and can be a deterrent to surgical procedures in the population waiting for kidney transplantation. However, the literature on the topic is controversial. This study evaluates the impact of body mass index (BMI) on complications after renal transplantation, and identifies factors associated with major complications to develop a prognostic risk score.

Stroke Mimicking Symptoms and Consequences of Alcohol Intoxication: A Case Report.

A 41-year-old Black male with a history of hypertension was involved in a car accident, after which he exhibited symptoms such as slow and incoherent speech, unstable gait, dizziness, drowsiness, slow thinking, and loss of strength in his limbs. Despite multiple negative alcohol tests, his symptoms mimicked those of acute alcohol intoxication. Upon presentation to the emergency room, physical examination and brain imaging revealed a right anterior thalamic ischemic infarction.

Concurrent presence of primary hemangioma and breast cancer metastasis within a lymph node: a case report inspired by the legacy of Professor Juan Rosai.

Secondary neoplastic lesions in lymph nodes are predominantly metastases from solid tumors, whereas primary lymph node hemangiomas are exceptionally uncommon, with only 24 well-documented cases in the literature. Histologically, they are characterized by endothelial cells that may appear flattened or enlarged, with variable vascular density, and the presence of stromal elements. Notably, the concurrent presence of a primary hemangioma and a metastasis from breast cancer - the latter being the most prevalent secondary lesion in axillary lymph nodes - represents an unprecedented observation.

Production of a new chitinase from Nocardiopsis halophila TN-X8 utilizing bio-waste from the blue swimming crab: enzyme characterization and immobilization.

In accordance with the framework of the Circular Blue Bioeconomy in the Mediterranean region, the objective of this study was to evaluate the biotransformation of blue swimming crab (Portunus segnis) residues obtained from the port of Sfax by an extracellular chitinase produced by Nocardiopsis halophila strain TN-X8 isolated from Chott El Jerid (Tozeur, Tunisia). From the analysis of multiple extremophilic Actinomycetota, it was determined that strain TN-X8 exclusively utilized 60 g/L of raw blue swimming crab as its carbon and energy source, achieving a chitinase activity of approximately 950 U/mL following a 6-day incubation period at 40 °C. Pure chitinase, designated as ChiA-Nh30, was obtained after heat treatment, followed by ammonium sulfate fractionation and Sephacryl® S-200 column chromatography.

To detect hypoxemia early and provide appropriate care, continuous monitoring of saturation is necessary: pulse oximetry is an easily accessible and simple method for this purpose. However, a SpO cut-off value to detect hypoxemia in dogs recovering from general anesthesia is lacking in the veterinary literature.

This study aims to evaluate the morpho-functional change in the patellar ligament in dogs with cranial cruciate ligament disease. We hypothesized that it may show increased thickening and stiffness with increasing days from onset to diagnosis instead of trauma. Understanding this aspect has implications for the choice of timing for treating patients suffering from cranial cruciate ligament disease, as well as the contextualization of patellar ligament desmitis pictures after surgical treatment with tibial plateau leveling osteotomy or tibial tuberosity advancement.

We therefore developed a system where a gelatin methacryloyl hydrogel laden with human adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells is combined with a secondary structure to provide bulk mechanical reinforcement.
