Although abundant research has been carried out to investigate the underlying mechanisms that may cause neurocognitive challenges among middle-aged and older people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWH), to monitor the prevalence rates of HIV-related neurocognitive deficits, and to identify factors related to the improvement of diagnostic screening tools, classification and nosology, and clinical and rehabilitative treatment of HIV-Associated Neurocognitive Disorder (HAND); to date, there have been only a few studies that have explored and examined the awareness and work experiences HIV sector healthcare and service providers have related to HAND. To address this research gap, we conducted a qualitative, community-based participatory research study and interviewed 12 HIV sector providers in Southern Nevada, USA, from January to April 2022. After performing a thematic analysis of our interviews, we were able to identify two major themes and several sub-themes.

Niger is a country in which legal restrictions and a dearth of research has long limited our understanding of the extent and safety of induced abortion. The current study is the first national study of induced abortion in Niger. It uses direct (self-report) and indirect (best friend method) to provide nationally representative estimates of induced abortion incidence and safety and evaluates the performance of the indirect measurement approach.

The members of the bacterial cytochrome P450 (CYP) monooxygenase family CYP125, catalyze the oxidation of steroid derivatives including cholesterol and phytosterols, as the initial activating step in their catabolism. However, several bacterial species contain multiple genes encoding CYP125 enzymes and other CYP enzymes which catalyze cholesterol/cholest-4-en-3-one hydroxylation. An important question is why these bacterium have more than one enzyme with overlapping substrate ranges capable of catalyzing the terminal oxidation of the alkyl chain of these sterols.

While cells in the human body function in an environment where the blood supply constantly delivers nutrients and removes waste, cells in conventional tissue culture well platforms are grown with a static pool of media above them and often lack maturity, limiting their utility to study cell biology in health and disease. Background: There is now a relatively well-established evidence base suggesting that greener living environments and time spent in urban green and blue spaces (UGBS) can be beneficial for human health and wellbeing. The growing use of modulator therapies aimed at restoring cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) protein function in people with cystic fibrosis has fundamentally altered clinical trial strategies needed to advance new therapeutics across an orphan disease population that is now divided by CFTR modulator eligibility. The development of a robust pipeline of nucleic acid-based therapies (NABTs)-initially directed towards the estimated 10% of the cystic fibrosis population who are genetically ineligible for, or intolerant of, CFTR modulators-is dependent on the optimisation of restricted trial participant resources across multiple development programmes, a challenge that will preclude the use of gold standard placebo-controlled trials. Advancement of a full pipeline of symptomatic therapies across the entire cystic fibrosis population will be challenged by smaller effect sizes and uncertainty regarding their clinical importance in a growing modulator-treated population with more mild and stable pulmonary disease.

Purpose: To describe trends and explore factors associated with quality of life (QoL) and psychological morbidity and assess breast cancer (BC) health service use over a 12-month period for patients joining the supported self-management (SSM)/patient-initiated follow-up (PIFU) pathway.

Methods: Participants completed questionnaires at baseline, 3, 6, 9 and 12 months that measured QoL (FACT-B, EQ 5D-5L), self-efficacy (GSE), psychological morbidity (GHQ-12), roles and responsibilities (PRRS) and service use (cost diary).

Results: 99/110 patients completed all timepoints; 32% (35/110) had received chemotherapy.

Unsafe abortion is a major contributor to maternal morbidity and mortality. To gain insight into the ways in which abortion restrictions and stigma may shape reproductive health outcomes, we present self-reported data on abortions in Ethiopia and Uganda and compare these findings across the two varying legal contexts. W investigate differences in sociodemographic characteristics by whether or not a woman self-reported an abortion, and we describe the characteristics of women's most recent self-reported abortion.

Novel superhydrophobic coatings, that are both biodegradable and biosourced, have the potential to revolutionize the water-repellent coating industry. Here, water-repellent coatings were prepared from commercially unavailable plant waxes, isolated using solvent extraction and characterized using DSC, GC-MS and DLS. In the first stage, a plant survey was conducted to identify an ideal plant source for the final spray, in which Whatman filter paper was submerged in a wax-solvent solution with recrystallization occurring upon air-drying.
