Water purification using adsorption is a crucial process for maintaining human life and preserving the environment. Batch and dynamic adsorption modes are two types of water purification processes that are commonly used in various countries due to their simplicity and feasibility on an industrial scale. However, it is important to understand the advantages and limitations of these two adsorption modes in industrial applications.

Two new monoterpene Ducrosin A (1) and sesquiterpene Ducrosin B (2) were isolated along with three known compounds, stigmasterol (3) and two furanocoumarins (4 and 5), from the dichloromethane extract of the seeds of Ducrosia anethifolia (DC.) Boiss. Their structures were determined using extensive 1D and 2D NMR, (ES)-HRMS and IR spectroscopic analyses and by comparison with literature data.

Background: 2,5-Diketopiperazine derivatives are considered to be an important classe of cyclic peptides due to their wide range of biological activities.

Objectives: Synthesis of a new series of protected 2,5-diketopiperazine derivatives and evaluation of their in vitro biological activities.

Methods: A series of new mono-protected arylidene 2,5-diketopiperazine derivatives 3a-p have been prepared via Claisen-Schmidt condensation of the N,N-diacetyl-diketopiperazine 1 with a series of substituted arylaldehydes.

A novel series of 6-aryl-3-methyl-1-phenyl-1H-pyrazolo[3,4-d]pyrimidin-4(5H)-ones 3a-h were synthesized in a single step via condensation of carboxamide 2 with some aromatic aldehydes (presence of iodine). Treatment of aminopyrazole 1a with acetic anhydride afforded pyrazolopyrimidines 4 which on treatment with ethyl chloroacetate in refluxing dry DMF furnished a single product identified as ethyl 2-(3,6-dimethyl-4-oxo-1-phenyl-1H-pyrazolo[3,4-d]pyrimidin-5(4H)-yl) acetate 5. On the other hand, esterification of compound 6 with different alcohol, led to the formation of new esters linked pyrazolo[3,4-d]pyrimidinones hybrids 7a-f.

A series of α-aminocarbonitriles 2a-h, obtained by a condensation reaction of 4-hydroxycoumarin with malononitrile and a series of arylaldehydes, was reacted with Lawesson's reagent to give the diazaphosphinanes 3a-h and 3a'-h' as diastereoisomers. All the synthesized compounds were characterized by spectroscopic means such as NMR ((1)H, (13)C, (31)P) and MS. The synthesized compounds were evaluated for their cytotoxic activity in vitro against two tumor cell lines MCF-7 and HCT-116 and for their anti-tyrosinase effect.

We synthesized two series of new hydrazide harmine derivatives. The reaction of harmine 1 with ethyl acetate chloride afforded the corresponding ethyl ester 2. The treatment of 2 with hydrazine hydrate gave the hydrazide 3 which further converted into hydrazones 4a-j and dihydrazides 5a-c.

Background: Tobacco use, unhealthy diet, and physical inactivity are among the leading causes of the major non communicable diseases. So, prevention should take place early in childhood.

Aim: In this paper, we will present an overview of project "Together in health" in schools, a component of a community based intervention.

Introduction: In Tunisia, few studies have assessed the association between tobacco use and other lifestyle risk factors for chronic disease (eg, unhealthy diet, physical inactivity). We studied 1,880 adults to determine the association between tobacco use and other lifestyle risk factors in Tunisia.

Methods: This study was part of an assessment of the prevalence of chronic disease risk factors in a community-based trial conducted in 2009 to implement a chronic disease prevention program.

Background: In Tunisia, little is known about the association between tobacco use and other chronic disease risk factors. This is the case for both adults and children. It is important to know the characteristics of young smokers to facilitate the creation and implementation of future programs for tobacco prevention.

Objective: To examine the prevalence of tobacco use among the teachers in the region of Sousse (Tunisia) and to identify the factors, which determine this behavior.

Patients And Methods: It is a transactional study; using a self-administered and pre-tested questionnaire to 800 teachers.

Results: The population being studied was made up of 739 teachers including 50.

The purpose of this study was to control the fabrication of new labile supramolecular assemblies by formulating associations of DNA molecules with inorganic layered double hydroxides (LDHs). The results show that LDH/DNA hybrids synthesized by a coprecipitation route involving the in situ formation of LDHs around DNA molecules acting as templates were characterized by a lamellar organization, with DNA molecules sandwiched between hydroxide layers, exhibiting a regular spacing of 1.96 nm.
