The authors analysed 20-years and longer observations over health state of personnel having occupational contact with highly enriched uranium. Findings are no determined effects as clinical manifestations of chronic uranium intoxication, presented by most frequently involved systems (hemopoietic, bronchopulmonary) and main organs accumulating uranium (liver, kidneys, bones). Long-term observations revealed malignancies in 11% of the examinees.

It was shown on the basis of retrospective investigation of 500 workers at a nuclear enterprise (162 cases of lung cancer, 338 persons as matching control) that the interaction of external gamma-irradiation (> 2.0 Gy) and the body-burden of 239Pu (> 9.3 kBq) at lung cancer incidence in multiplicative.

A case-control study using logistic regression included 500 employees of the nuclear works (162 patients with lung carcinoma and 338 healthy controls). After examination of radiation and nonradiation causative factors 5 proved statistically significant. For them the following chance proportions were obtained: smoking 6.

The "dose-response" mechanism has been studied for three main histological types of tumor in a cohort of 500 workers occupationally exposed to different doses of radiation (162 patients with lung cancer and 338 practically healthy persons) using the "case-control" method and multifactorial logic regression procedure. A non-linear threshold dependence was established for incorporated plutonium, with the threshold being at 8 kBq to correspond to 80 kGy. This relationship has been particularly distinct in cases of adenocarcinoma.

Adenocarcinoma frequency in Pu incorporation-related lung cancer patients among plutonium workers was found to be 74% versus 33% in control. Each histological pattern of lung cancer appeared to be related to several etiological factors but in varying degree. Incorporated Pu proved the strongest factor in adenocarcinoma development.

Preserved whole blood and erythrocyte suspension in the colloid preservative "Modezhele" were studied after leukocyte filtration through newly designed leukofilter. Morphofunctional properties of erythrocytes from the filtered media remained much more potent than from the nonfiltered ones throughout 18 months of the follow-up. The filtered media exhibited good rheology and were free of microclots.

Five hundred workers of a nuclear facility (162 cases of lung cancer and 338 healthy subjects) were examined on a case-control basis using the logical regression method and 10 radiation and non-radiation factors. Five significant factors were identified. The following rick values were obtained for them: tobacco smoking-6.

The paper deals with formation of the complex of effector vegetative components of mental activity (on the model of sum doing) in the children under school age (4-5 and 6-7 years old) with different correlation of direct and verbal stimuli. It is found that the perception and processing of direct signals (kinesthetic, visual) creates optimal conditions for voluntary activity and its vegetative provision. Processing of the information with second signal significance worsens the performance of mental operations and of their vegetative provision particularly in 4-5 years old children (as compared to 6-7 years old ones).

Negative induction influences of one (prevailing) signal system on another (functionally weaker) were studied on the model of effector vegetative-somatic components of motor conditioned reflexes to direct (sound) and verbal ("a whistle is blowing") stimuli in the children of different age (4-5 and 6-7 years) after the activation of the first or second signal systems. It was found, that one of the informative cues of intersystem negative induction is the impairment of functional interconnections in the complex of vegetative components, providing for the adaptive activity of the organism. Negative induction influences of the first signal system on the second were found in younger children (4-5 years old) and that of the second signal system on the first one -- in the senior group (6-7 years).

Adenyl cyclase activity was estimated in blood platelets of healthy persons and of patients with myeloleukosis, osteomyelofibrosis and with Glanzmann's thrombasthenia. Six-fold decrease in the adenyl cyclase activity from the platelets was observed in chronic myeloleukosis. The enzymatic activity in platelets was similar to normal level in osteomyelofibrosis and Glanzmann's thrombasthenia.

Interconnection between effector vegetative components of voluntary activity in children (6 to 7 years) has been studied on a model of arithmetic count with a different ratio of direct (kinesthetic, visual) and verbal stimuli. It has been shown that perception and processing of direct signals set up optimal conditions of vegetative providing for voluntary activity in children. A statistically significant correlation has been found between the characteristics of interconnection of vegetative components (relationship betwpen the heart rate and arterial pressure) and the level of capacity for mental work ("efficiency coefficient").

The formation of a complex of vegetative-somatic components of constructive activity (assembling figures out of mosaic chips) was analysed in children in the ontogenetic aspect during elaboration of a dynamic stereotype to direct stimuli (with presentation of samples) and during instantaneous formation of voluntary reactions to stimuli of a mainly second signal nature (without presentation of samples). The complex of effector vegetative-somatic components became more complicate and elaborate in the course of the child's growth, beginning with areflexia and disintegration in children of the younger groups (aged from two to three years) and up to correlated synchronous reflex changes of these components in children of the older group (six to seven years old).

Characteristics of interrelations in the complex of vegetative-somatic components (cardio-vascular, respiratory and motor) in conditioning to verbal signals denoting action were studied in children aged from one year nine months up to two years six months. The formation of a signal significance of verbal stimuli is accompanied by a progressive rise in the level of synchronous interrelations between vegetative components.
