State Educational Institution of Higher Professional Training of the Ministry of Health Care and Social Development Foundation of Russian Sanitary Epidemiologic Service dates back to September, 15, 1922, when a Decree on Sanitary Institutions of the Republic was signed. Afterwards the institutions of Sanitary Epidemiologic Service were improved: foundation of State Sanitary Inspectorate (1933-1951), approval of new concept of the Service and intensification of State Sanitary Inspectorate (1951-1991), foundation of State Sanitary Epidemiologic Service, centralization of management and financing of the Service, formation of Sanitary Epidemiologic Legislation (1991-2004), further restructurization of Sanitary Epidemiologic Service in accordance with administrative changes in Russia (2004 until now).

The authors have examined 104 elderly patients after one of operations on the stomach. The mineral metabolism, biochemical and X-ray findings were investigated. Osteoporosis was observed more often in patients after Billroth-II resection of the stomach, rarer after Billroth-I operation and more rarely in patients after pylorus-saving resection of the stomach.

The paper analyzes the results of the investigations of raw foods, foodstuffs for genetically modified components, conducted by the state sanitary and epidemiological service of the Russian Federation during its current sanitary inspection. The presented materials cover 2003-2004. The findings suggest that there is a great deal of foods containing genetically modified sources on the market and show the priority groups of foodstuffs and the distribution of these foods on the territory of the Russian Federation.

In the article the problems of actual nutrition and state of Russian children health are considered. The carried out examinations of the vitaminous status have shown presence of a deficit of vitamins E, B1, B6, PP, and also calcium, phosphorus, iron lactate, zinc in daily ration of children. The inadequate organization of C-vitaminization of boiled food in children establishments, low supplying of learning schools by a hot food, insufficient use of products from suer milk, fish, juices, meat products, butter, vegetables, fruit, eggs in a nutrition of children is marked.

The results of monitoring of population dietary intake and quality of foods in Russia in last years are discussed. Main problems in dietary intake of population are high animal fat intake and slightly low level of high quality protein intake. Deficits of some vitamins, minerals and dietary fiber intake are also first priority problems in nutrition of population.

The data on the epidemiological analysis of cholera cases in the epicenter of this infection in the Daghestan, viz. in the village of Gerga, Kaiakent District, are presented. The outbreak of cholera was due to the import of this infection by pilgrims from their hajj to Saudi Arabia.

For the first time a case of AIDS was detected in the Krasnodar Territory of the USSR, and the presence of HIV infection in homosexuals, foreign students, and promiscuous persons was established. To study the spread of HIV infection, 5 diagnostic laboratories were created and 5 routes for the transportation of sera were organized. This permitted the screening of the population in 1988 with the complete coverage of groups to be placed under surveillance.
